“Two Stars for the Price of Four!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

How this hotel ever got a 3 star rating is a complete mystery to me. We had a special occasion to celebrate and did not plan to spend a lot of daytime in the room so we chose the "Classic" room, not the "Deluxe" one, but still... at 200$ a night, I was angry to find myself in what felt like a 2 starred highway side motel.

1) The staff seems unconcerned and bored.
2) Two out of three nights, we heard a loud ticking noise coming either from the plumbing or heating system that kept us (and our noisy upstairs neighbors) awake most of the night.
3) The front desk staff refused to lend me a bathrobe (because "those are only for our Deluxe Rooms clients") which meant I had to run down the 200 feet hotel corridor between the Jacuzzi and Pool rolled up in a worn out pool towel trying to hold up what was left of my dignity.
4) All other general concerns : plastic cups in the bathroom instead of glasses, minimal toiletries, only one soap for hands AND shower over our 3 nights stay at the Inn, stained carpet, breakfast not included, very slow Internet and so on...

On the bright side, our room was fairly clean and the restaurant was okay. The waiting staff in the dinning room was pleasant. I would have rated this hotel "Average" if it was not for the price.

In short, if you believe an "EconoLodge" type room with a pretty quilt and a great location is worth 200$ a night, go for the Inn! For me, I'll look elsewhere next time I'm in Stowe!

My husband and I have been visiting the Green Mountain Inn since our college days over 10 years ago! We love Stowe, Vermont and the Green Mountain Inn is the perfect place to spend a weekend away! The location is right where you want to be in the heart of Stowe. The staff is friendly and efficient, very helpful with suggestions on what to do in the area. The Whip restaurant offers a great atmosphere and perfect Vermont menu! We love to escape for weekends together and the Green Mountain Inn is the place to go!

We stayed 2 nights and were delighted with the facilities, in particular the swimming pool and gym.
We found desk staff very helpful directing us to the best locations for autumn leaves. the breakfast was huge and next time I would only order the Continental breakfast.

I just came back from a weekend trip to Vermont with my husband. We were very happy about our stay at Green Mountain Inn. It was a very historical hotel with a nice restaurant called "the whip". It is well maintained and renovated. During the weekend, there were wedding receptions on both Saturday and Sunday night, but we didn't hear any of it in our room. The only down side about this hotel is that it's in the small village of Stowe, 40 minutes away from Burlington. If you are the kind of person looking for a lot of night events, this may not be the right choice for you...

I would recommend this hotel along with the restaurant!

We arrived in Stowe in the middle of our tour of New England & our tour company had booked us into the Green Mountain Inn. We were allocated a beautiful room with lounge area, 4 poster bed & a welcome surprise of a jacuzzi bath within the bedroom. The hotel was clean, comfortable bed and the staff extremely friendly & helpful especially Paul on the front desk. We ate on our second night in the hotel's Whip bar which again was faultless serving delicious food with excellent service! Ideal location in the centre of the town surrounded by a wide selection of shops.
We braved the outdoor pool which was heated to a pleasant temperature given the external atmospheric conditions! While it was not a requirement of ours & certainly didn't ruin our stay we could not seem to get the sauna operating. We would definitely recommend The Green Mountain Inn to people visiting the Stowe area.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour of New England, so had stayed at a number of other hotels on route, and therefore had a good range to compare with.. The facilities in the hotel itself were fine, but we were allocated an incredibly small bedroom (smaller even than a Travel Lodge, which says a lot) which was dominated by an unnecessary four poster bed. There was hardly any room to store our bags without either tripping over them or each other. The lighting was so discreet that it was positively dingy, and we struggled to see to read. There was no DVD player in the room despite a promise on our booking - it appears that we were allocated one of only 4 bedrooms in the entire complex without this facility.

It was also very noisy, located above what appeared to be the kitchen extrator fan, which wasn't turned off till after 11 pm andn came on again at 6 am. We had the distinct feeling that we were given a second rate room because we had booked through an agency, although this was denied by the clerk who checked us out, and who said we could always have emailed in advance - but how are you expected to know in advance what size of room you will get?

Having said that, the food and service in the restaurant were excellent.

I would go back to Stowe, but not to this hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure it's bigger than a postage stamp!

We stayed at the Green Mountain Inn for only one night (a Friday) because all of the rooms were booked for the rest of the weekend. Our room was lovely, with a quilted bedspread and a canopy over the bed. The decor was just lovely. The bed was as high as I am short and had to make a good jump to get on it, but once on it, was very comfortable. The bathrooms were spacious and clean, with some nice amenities. In spite of the terrible, rainy weather that inhibited our picture taking of the spectacular foliage and forced us to walk through raindrops to the shops and galleries, we still had a great time. The Whip Restaurant has excellent food and a nice atmosphere. The Mercantile next door was a fun souvenir store. The Art Galleries in the area were worth the trip. Would definitely stay there again if and when we want to visit Stowe, Vermont.
