“Grandma's House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Loved our 3-night stay at Stowehof during our family vacation this past August. We had perfect weather for the pool which was a but cold, but very clean. The pool deck and hotel look out over the valley with Mt. Mansfield towering opposite. The grounds were immaculate.

The hotel is dated and that is the charm. The place is like one giant cottage with all the homey feel of a place that has been well-loved for many years. The bookshelf, knick-knacks and eclectic decorations all add to the charm. The dining room has a great view. Relaxing in the common area and game nook were favourites of ours. Loved the bookshelf stocked with old classics and odd finds.

Our room had a king and a pull-out for our 2 girls. The king was super comfortable, the pullout was okay. Small flatscreen in the room. Seemed like there had been a sale on mirrors - several surfaces were covered with them - all part of the funky decor. We had a patio door on the ground floor - just walk out to the pool. Lovely cool mountain air at night and super quiet. The bathroom was a decent size. Everything was newly painted and looked very clean.

The desk staff were very helpful, with the one exception that we had asked for an early check-out and been told it was no problem. In the morning no one was on the desk. Thankfully the lady who had helped us secure an additional night (can't remember her name, should have written it down) had come in early to do some other work and checked us out. Thanks!

The one disappointment was that the hot tub seemed neglected. It wasn't hot and one of the jets was broken. It wasn't a huge deal, but it would have been nice after hiking to the summit of the mountain!

Really loved this place and would consider a winter visit to do some skiing. Super cozy and a great spot for family or for a couples getaway.

I will be back.. I was looking for a place to reset my self.. i found it.. Amazing time.. Very accommodating staff.. Highly recommend.. The breakfast buffet was delicious!! The Martinis perfect!! Beautiful walking trail just yards away. Close to town but yet you feel like your a million miles away when your there.. The only disappointment was the indoor pool was very cold and the hot tub needed new jets.. The sauna was great.. Molly who checks you in was as friendly as a best friend ... Cannot say enough about the staff..

Just returned from another visit to the Stowehof. I think the fact that we keep returning sums up how we feel.

When we arrived (much earlier that the stated checkin time....actually even earlier than the stated checkout time....) the very lovely Molly informed us that our room wasn't ready and she requested that it be the next room cleaned. We headed into town for lunch and when we returned our room was ready. Exactly the room we requested. Comfy king bed, fireplace, sliding doors to a lovely sitting area, huge soaking tub....perfect.

The room came with a simple breakfast buffet. (some toast tongs would be great....I tend to be clumsy and would burn my fingers trying to pull my muffin out)

We had dinner at the Inn every night. Stowe has some fabulous restaurants, but we found between the two restaurants at the Inn there was no need to drive into town for great food. We do wish there were more appetizer choices. The burger special offered mid week is the best deal around, not to mention the best tasting burger ever. I would love to know what they use for seasoning....we look forward to it every year. (I am not a burger fan and really prefer more gourmet food...but those burgers are just that good)

We had experienced a wonderfully romantic Honeymoon. We had a great deal of snowfall and could cross country ski from our sliders. An amazing dinner, sleigh ride and romantic feeling. 2:00 pm tea and cookie time, yum. Love the gathering room with the books! games! and great coffee. Such a great place and have passed it on to my sister-in-law who was married here also. We want to do a joint trip, any ideas?

My hubby and I stayed here during the British Classic Cars & Motorcycle Invasion. Coincidently, it was also our 38th wedding anniversary!

We booked on-line only a couple weeks prior. Much of Stowe hotel rooms were booked. Our expectations were for a basic, standard room to sleep in. Upon our arrival, were thrilled with the room, as it was way beyond our expectations. We were in room #44, which is "the honeymoon suite"! We ate, drank, swam, and used the sauna.

We are already looking forward to next year's British Invasion- but we met a couple that will be hosting their wedding there at the same time so it will probably be all booked ~(lucky guests of Adrienne and David!). It is a beautiful inn, and we highly recommend it.
