“Anniversary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

My wife and I had dinner, an evening and, breakfast at Stowehof on our second anniversary. For dinner we both chose the Fix-Pris dinner option. Ceasar salads followed by the Bistro Steak (for her) and the Wiener Schnitzel (for me) - loved them both! Dessert and coffee in the living room - very romantic.
We had one of the Classic Rooms (#42) - bright, clean, spacious and, comfortable. It had a nice balcony with great views of Mt. Mansfield. The only negative (thus not a 5-star review) was temperature control. It was an abnormally warm day and the air conditioner was a little tired.

Let me conclude with a confession; my wife and I have a soft spot for Stowehof. Independently we have been going there for years - her first visit was in 1968! We love the ambiance and the old-time, rustic comfort of the inn and the restaurant; the food is consistently excellent.

We were married there on August 28th, 2011 - the day that Tropical Storm Irene dumped on Vermont. Sixteen of those invited could not make it due to the weather. The wedding itself went off without a hitch, despite the horrible conditions. We learned later that most of the staff had to spend the night at the hotel due to the storm. They were fabulous.

Anyway - we love the place!

Room Tip: It's an older, establishment and not very disabled-friendly. If you have mobility issues make s...

The pictures don't do the place justice. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. We stayed in a suite on the second floor and worth the extra money for the upgrade. Hanging at the pool with a beer and enjoying the sun was great. We ate at Emily's and it was good but we had better food the other days in town. The breakfast pancakes were awesome and loved that u can get coffee all day in the sitting area. We can't wait to come back next year.

Built long ago by the person who owned Mt. Mansfield Ski area Stowehof is patterned after a Swiss/Austrian chalet. Just a short drive off the mountain road it seems rural and quiet. Inside there are many fireplaces, nooks to sit in, homey and filled with books games and antiques. It feels far more "Old-World that the Trapp Family Lodge. We dined outside nex to the pool on a balmy summer evening as the setting sun outlined the recumbent outline of the Mt. Mansfield man (forehead, nose, chin); it was beautiful. We will return to this gem during ski season.

Simply put...stay here. If you are expecting the Ritz, don't. This is an old world charming resort. Beautiful views and great location. The food is amazing. Our deal included dinner and breakfast and the menu covered many options. Our room (#37) was adequate size but most importantly...clean. We watched the sunset behind the mountains directly from our room. We will be back.

The grounds surrounding this property are spectacular. We were fortunate o have been invited to a lovely wedding in this beautiful Vermont town.
The setting for the couple's special event was spectacular and unique. The food and drink were excellent except for powdered eggs on the breakfast buffet.
The public areas at this Inn are very nice. The rooms were expensive and left much to be desired. For the rates we were charged, which were supposedly discounted, we expected much more. The bed was vet comfortable. The furnishings were second rate. The TV was very small. The bathrooms were old and dirty. We were supposed to have a refrigerator and did not. We definitely expected a cleaner, more up to date room.
Fortunately, we didn't have to spend a lot of time in our room as we connected with family and friends. The room numbering in the facility was really confusing; room #1 was after room #35. Who would expect that.?

Room Tip: Don't get a standard room as you won't be able to get out of your own way.

Will go back as often as possible. Food, accomidations, friendly service, spectacular views. Why go anywhere else. Perfect location for doing nothing or doing everything. Tennis, swimming, shopping, spa, 5 star restaurant, free breakfast. Amazing. Call molly for great service. While in town also visit the Vonn Trapp Inn. 200 characters is a lot to write when you only want to say so much.

1st of all let me say that I chose this hotel because of the view and the location, and was not disappointed! The view is beautiful. We enjoyed the pools, hot tub and the tennis court as well. We were there in July and the outdoor pool was still too cold to swim in though.
The hotel itself is charming and rustic. Very ski-lodge feeling. A little stuffy though, and lots of mildew / mould on the wall leading down to the pool / sauna from inside the hotel. We liked the breakfast which was included. Nice to have a real hot breakfast instead of just continental.
Stowe is a charming little town with lots of good restaurants and microbrewery beers :) There are many things to do if you like the outdoors. We rented kayaks nearby.
The hotel staff were nice enough but didn't really go above and beyond standard expectations.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the mountains!
