“Clean, overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

Room was clean, bed comfort acceptable, internet strength good, continental breakfast really poor. The check in was pleasant but my request for a quiet room was not honored even though there are less than 5 rooms booked. Overall a poor value. I would not stay here again.

We have stayed here very summer for 9 years. It is a great place just to relax and also they are very dog friendly. Our dogs are so excited every year when we arrive. Once we are in the room, we open the door to the outside and the dogs run in the wide open field out back. The people here are very friendly and make us feel welcome year after year. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. We highly recommend this wonderful Inn.

We stayed here during our Ski Vacation. Our experience with the man at the front desk was not very good. The guy was very unfriendly and had his ear on his cellphone and was yelling at someone on the other end. He cursed several times even knowing we were standing there waiting. We had to wait almost 10 minutes before getting any attention. Total tick off. The hotel needs to train their staff better. We will never stay there again.

We made a list minute decision to go skiing at Stowe, and one of the few places that had rooms was the Mountaineer Inn. We booked a double room for my wife and I, and our teenage son. For the price it was a good choice. The room was small, but clean, and not too noisy. The included breakfast was basic, with a hot breakfast option for $10. The hotel is close to the mountain, which made it very convenient for skiing. Gracie's restaurant which is right across the road was fabulous for dinner and very busy.

If you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay for a few days, and don't plan to spend a lot of time in the room, this is a good choice.

Don't go in the hot tub due to high chemical level, searing lungs, sauna is tiny, scum line around hot tub not cleaned in long time. Cheap basic rooms not worth the cost. Better places to stay for same price. I would not come back here.

I stayed at the Mountaineer Inn back in the winter of 1990 on a college ski trip, and I remember having a pleasant stay there with the indoor heated pool and the crackling fireplace in the lobby. 22 years later when I planned a family ski trip, I wanted to return but I was concerned about what toll the past 20+ years might have taken on the place. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Mountaineer to be a clean, hospitable place to stay. It's a small older hotel (my grandmother even stayed here in 1967!), but the owners obviously keep the place up well. The rooms weren't fancy, but they were clean and freshly-painted. We had a room with a nice view out the back door of a babbling brook, and there were dedicated locking closets outside the rooms where we could store our ski equipment. A basic continental breakfast was a nice start to the day (especially when food at Stowe is so expensive). It's located only about 4 miles from Stowe, so it was a great place to stay on our trip. And the large hot tub downstairs was a pleasant place to relax after a day on the slopes. I'd like to extend a big thank you to the staff at the Mountaineer for taking such good care of the hotel--and their guests. I'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 108 was nice because there wasn't a room above, and it was close enough to pick up the lobb...

I stayed there as part of a group. It is a very cozy and warm setting. The breakfast was delicious, with a huge variety of dellcious plates to choose from. The pool/jacuzzi was so inviting, I couldn't get enough of it! The staff was very accommodating, professional and friendly. I definitely will be back! Great Place!
