“Surprisingly Satisfying”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2008

We stayed 3 nights in July 2008 and ended up really liking this hotel, despite being prepared to be disappointed. We wanted to stay in downtown Burlington but couldn't find a good rate on the 2 lakefront hotels there. So, of the 3 -star hotels to choose from, we chose the Windjammer because we could walk to downtown Burlington in a half hour and we wanted an outdoor pool. We happily got what we wanted. The hotel is also an easy 5-minute walk to to any store or eating establishment. The room was small for 2 people but very clean, and although it faced the outdoor pool it was quiet even when families occupied the pool. We had a 3rd floor room which was very quiet -- important to me as I am a light sleeper. The indoor pool was fine as was the jacuzzi and there was a small fitness room. Everything was very clean. Coffee and tea always available in the lobby, and delicious warm chocolate chip cookes and milk in the evenings. We skipped the breakfast as it was crowded and only offered bread and cereal, no fresh fruit or yogurt, though they did have fresh juice. It's fine if you just want to feed your kids something to get your day started, but we are more particular. We simply dedided to use our lovely morning walk past the University into downtown Burlington to find breakfast. We discovered the Saturday morning farmers market which offered more interesting choices -- I had a falafel which was much healthier than an english muffin at the hotel.

We would definitley stay here again.

Reviews of this hotel are overrated. Over 75% of the rooms are old and run down. A word to the wise.. the rooms in the recently renovated section (rooms 400-499) are 110% nicer. If possible, try to avoid rooms that face parking lot and on the 1st floor as they are more noisy. Because of the proximity to the airport, highway, downtown and university this hotel is heavily used. The room rate is one of the lowest in the area. While the hotel has pet friendly these rooms have a strong pet odor.

  • Liked — Pet friendly and lower priced hotel
  • Disliked — Outdated hotel and below average room quality

I have traveled extensively as a professional academic and as a tourist and have found the staff at this hotel just unbearably difficult, rude, and not only unhelpful, but on occasion, purposefully malicious. The manager is very rude and he does not give this chain a good name. As a platinum member , I expected more. Will not stay here again, and possibly not again with this chain. The breakfast is also ok, low on fruit, high on sugar like many. The business center is nonexistant, consisting of one computer in the lobby. The rooms themselves are ok, and the pool is ok but very chlorine rich and the restaurant is not very good, but again, ok. The manager and staff are so terrible though that I have to give this one the lowest possible rating. I would not trust them with a park and fly, either.

I am so sorry to hear about your horrible experience at our hotel. I wanted to respond to let you know that we have made a lot of change to our hotel since 2008, Including a new Guest Services Manager and an entirely new front desk staff. We have implemented a Customer Care program that the entire hotel has gone through and we have made some very significant changes with regards to customer service. We also offer many more amenities and recognize our Rewards members very differently than we did over 4 years ago. We would really appreciate any consideration for another try at our hotel.

We stayed at the Windjammer preflight south on January 3 2008 and paid about $ 120.00 for the night and the right to leave our car parked at the hotel while we were south for just over two weeks.

There's a 24/7 shuttle provided for transferring customers to and from the airport and the cost of the room was less than the airport parking charge would have been for 16 days.

Our room was on the forth floor in an area being renovated. There was a strong smell at first of carpet glue but it did disappear.

The room was very basic and the night we stayed it was VERY VERY Cold! Something like 15 below. The room airconditionare/heater was so noisy it was impossible to sleep with it on. But it was one cold night and with it off the room got pretty cool.

That combined with very thin walls, we got very little sleep.

Still the parking was free.... and the breakfast buffet was acceptable so we'll do it again, but a=maybe at a different hotel offering free parking and airport shuttle.

  • Liked — Free parking and airport shuttle
  • Disliked — Paper thin walls and a air system so loud combined for a very poor nights sleep

This is a great property near the highway and also close enough to downtown Burlington. It is great because they take dogs. There is plenty of parking close to the building. There is an outdoor pool and an onsite restaurant with a good bar and good food. The room was clean and a good size.

  • Liked — clean room, restaurant, access to highway and city
  • Disliked — not the greatest continental breakfast

Well first of all the hotel staff was very rude!! Second Do not leave your car there if you are going on vacation!! They told me they had great security. Well they didn't. While i was in florida my car was broke into and about $3000 worth of car stereo and cd's were stolen out of my vehicle. i had left the phone # for them to get ahold of me and they never called. i found out my car was broken into when i returned to the hotel after my vacation.
they said they were not responsible. so i had to drive back to new york state in the middle of the winter with 2 broken windows so my insurance comany could see the damage.
