I am rarely effusive in my reviews of hotels in the US but in this case I will make an exception. In fact, I find it difficult to find any fault with this hotel. As previous reviewers have noted, this hotel actually comprises two separate buildings-the front building where I stayed for 10 days and the building to the rear which is cheaper but appears to be drawing a different clientele. The hotel is in an excellent state of repair, is clean and well-decorated. The rooms are pristine clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. Wifi was free and easily accessible. A large parking lot is available. The hotel is located at a distance of 15 minutes from Downtown Burlington and the airport. There are two very good restaurants in walking distance and a decent-sized shopping plaza is about 5 minutes away by car. I also made considerable use of the business center and the shuttle service to and from the airport-all of which I greatly appreciated. What makes this hotel stand out is the high customer-oriented standards and friendliness of the people who work in it. The folks on the front desk were unfailingly helpful and polite. In short, this is a well-managed hotel which will likely meet the needs and expectations of both short and long stay visitors.

Room Tip: Rooms located on the top floor of the front building have a pleasant view of Lake Champlain.

If you want to visit Burlington stay at Smart Suites. The suites are spacious, inexpensive and the staff are very helpful. It also includes a good breakfast for the money. The location is great for anything you would want to do in Burlington.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny. Rooms on the south side are the quietest

We travel fairly often, for either local 2-4 day "breaks" and occasional cross-country jaunts. We love finding a hotel that is modestly priced (we don't travel in peak periods when prices are highest) and that is in a VERY good state or repair/maintenance, that offers very clean suites with all amenities & appliances that are fully functional and in very good appearance/condition. The Smart Suites is just such a hotel, with very comfortable beds (no sagging, old mattresses) - that is a critical component for my wife, who has back problems. The hotel's cleanliness is very good also, as my wife also suffers from asthma and allergies, and this Smart Suites does a very good job of cleaning all carpeting, etc. The neighbourhood is very nice, and local attractions and amenities & services are quite complete. Overall, we would definitely recommend this Smart Suites !!

Room Tip: The side of the hotel facing a group of trees is a little quieter (but noise is NOT a problem overal...

Dear Richard G,

It is wonderful to hear that you found our hotel and took notice of the accommodations we offer! It sounds like you are well traveled and reviews from such an experienced perspective certainly holds a tremendous weight. I am excited to share you kind words with our staff, especially our maintenance and housekeeping teams. We all work very hard to ensure each room is perfectly clean and in the best condition possible. We know our guests choose to stay with us because of our excellent location and great rates however we hope you return as our guest because of your experience!

Comfortable beds are defiantly a key component to the Smart Suites experience. As someone who suffers from back pain myself, I understand the value of a new, brand name mattress as offered in our suites. Also, in regards to noise, we receive very little feedback concerning outside disturbances but recommend our guests with sensitive hearing try our ambient “forest view” suites. Great tip for future travelers!

James Davison

I would have to agree with the previous review "Would Not Recommend to Anyone", as there are two entirely different Smart Suites buildings, with the one at the bottom of the hill most likely getting the good reviews and the other Smart Suites "on the hill" getting the less than stellar reviews. Like the other reviewer, I do not always feel safe staying at Smart Suites "on the hill" which is for longer term stays.
Several years ago, it actually was a pretty nice place to stay with a managerial office on the first floor and a more business type clientele. Back then, there was regular housekeeping, monthly rates and it was definitely quieter and cleaner. Now, since moving to weekly stays, the housekeeping is bare minimum and you are also required to supply just about everything including bedding and towels, etc. The noise level can be quite high as there seem to be a lot of low income families who act as if they are the only ones in the whole building, allowing their kids to run up and down the halls, screaming like animals. Not too mentions real animals too, with barking dogs on occasion, though they are arguably less noisy than the unruly kids.
The rate is more affordable than other long term hotels in the area, which probably accounts for more of the Section 8 types. Unfortunately, not so good for business type working folks. We encountered one man who could no longer stand the noise, etc. and said he was checking out because he couldn't stand it anymore and asked how we could stay and put up with it. Another night, the police were here and took away a woman in handcuffs. It can be quite a rowdy and often scary place with some tranquility in between. Also, there is no continental or breakfast of any kind and guests at this Smart Suites are regularly reminded that they are not welcome to partake of the breakfasts at the "other Smart Suites" where the main office is.
There are often domestic disputes but the staff does seem to be responsive in responding accordingly, which is a plus. The rooms are not as luxurious as the photos indicate, with furniture, etc. that are well worn, torn in some cases and ready for replacement. The lake view rooms are nice but may be a bit noisy with revelers in the parking lot on some nights. Might be quieter in the rooms facing the back. Rooms have walls that are a bit thin that seem to be typical of most US hotels. Avoid the conjoining rooms that have a door between because you can hear every word the person in the other room says (and vice versa).
Years ago, I'd have rated Smart Suites "on the hill" as slightly better than average for value but sadly, this time around will probably be our last stay due to the noise and safety factors. That being said the other Smart Suites at the bottom of the hill looks quite nice and is probably a much nicer place to stay.

When looking for a suite to accommodate a family with adult children, stumbled upon Smart Suites. The entire experience was created to mimic a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. The rooms were new and clean. The guest staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was fine. Small but adequate fitness room. In a row of hotels and a couple of restaurants. Around the corner from the Magic Hat Brewery (don't miss it if you like interesting beers!). All-in-all a good value and a fine stay.

Room Tip: The street side can be noisy.

Dear Kay_J0y,

We are happy you found our hotel and decided to stay here during your time in Burlington! It is wonderful to hear you found the additional space in our suites to be of good value while traveling with your family. Our hotel is not a brand like the Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn which allows us to create a unique experience without having to adhere to corporate standards. In this, we are able to pass on additional savings to our guest and take on amenities not available to other hotels due to branding restrictions.

I am also excited to hear you had the opportunity to visit the Magic Hat Brewery! Being within walking distance of the brewery from our hotel, we always recommend our guest take the time to experience their unique brew tour. We love our local industry here in Vermont and the Smart Suites is proud to say we are locally and independently owned!

It's maybe not the best location ever but our stay was nice.
The room, a little suite, is well furnished. The breakfast was really good (you have to try the cinnamon rolls!) for a free one. The swimming pool is located in the holiday inn express and you have to walk through the parking lot to get in. It's a little annoying during winter time.
The staff is helpful and kind.
It's really a good bargain for the price.

Dear debz84,

Here at the Smart Suites, we believe in getting more for less. Clean and comfortable rooms at a great price have always been has always been our mission statement. Additionally, because we offer all suites we can provide our guests with more spacious accommodations than regular hotel rooms. In this, we feel we are creating a great value but hope that your experience is what brings you back as our guest.

It is always a privilege to receive feedback especially from someone who is such an experienced reviewer on Trip Advisor such as yourself. Our staff will be please to hear that you found them to be kind and helpful. Also, I will let our breakfast attendant Ben know that he did a great job preparing our Deluxe Continental Breakfast, as usual!

I look forward to your next trip to Burlington and hopefully we will have the opportunity to meet again.
