“Great place to shop for Rockwell-related items”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

After having visited the NormaN Rockwell Museum in the Berkshires, this location was disappointing. When we initially walked in, there was a strong smell of mustiness in the air and the docent informed us that she was "used to it". We could not get used to it, however. The Gift Shop was actually larger than the actual museum and it seemed the property was more concerned with selling prints and paraphenalia than emphasizing the rich heritage of this American artist through informative displays. For Rockwell lovers who can't get enough, this can be an enjoyable experience, but we couldn't get past the air quality to really enjoy it.

“Good time”

You could spend hours here. Amazing what a body of work Rockwell had. This was an unexpected stop for us but well worth it.

“A mecca for Rockwell fans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Great to see his style evolve. Loved the kitsch set up. Large choice of prints in the gift shop, you can even buy them framed for a reasonable price.

“Mixed messages at the "museum"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

After a long morning, my husband and I wanted to take in some sights nearby where we were staying so we decided to come here. Online closing time is listed on various sites as both 4PM and 5PM. To ascertain what time they really closed, at 3:30PM my husband called ahead. He was told that the "museum" would be closing at 4PM, unless we were there in which case it would close at 5. What? Talk about mixed messages.
So we zoomed down to find out that we had to pay $6.50 each to get in. That's outrageous for a one-room show -- albeit a PACKED one room. What's more, the pieces the place (I'm loath to call it a museum, it's really just a gallery) has are not originals, so in some respects they're a dime a dozen.
They were wonderful to look at though. Norman Rockwell was an extraordinarily talented artist.
What this gallery did for me was whet my appetite to go to Stockbridge, Mass. to see the REAL Rockwell museum.
I'd say this is a good rainy day or late afternoon activity, but for what it is, it's not worth going inside and wasting daylight hours that can be spent in the wonderful outdoors of this beautiful state.

“What a nostalgic trip through history...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

We are so happy we "stopped in". This is a lovely little museum, self-guided and not fancy but with the most amazing collection of Norman Rockwell covers and illustrations. They start in the 1910s and go through to 1979 (when he died) and took us on a joyful, touching, journey through the times and events. We recommended it to others at our Inn and they came back so grateful for the recommendation. Don't miss it.
