“Just about OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Room reasonably sized and well equipped. Furniture a little old fashioned but King bed comfortable. Corridors and stairs barely adequate and no elevator to second floor.
Breakfast standard but filling. Windows locked shut - hate that we had to rely on noisy a/c.
Price reasonable.

Room Tip: Take a look first.

The hotel was having a motorcycle riders club get together so the place was fairly full. The rooms were adequate and they only smelled a little, perhaps must from the air conditioner. My bathtub drained so slow that after a shower I was in ankle deep water. The staff was very nice and the hotel van took us where we needed to go. I waould stay here again if need be or I would try one of the other places except for the Ramada.

We stayed for 7 nights. The staff at this hotel was exceptional. The room was very large, clean, beds were comfortable. Free breakfast if you are a priority member. The Staff at Paytners were very nice. They knew we would be down at breakfast and had a table and high chair ready for us each morning. The hotel was sold out for a big event and the staff was very attentive to everyone's needs. I would recommend this hotel

The employees at this hotel were, without exception, friendly and helpful. We arrived in the morning and the front desk person found a room for us to check into so that we could unload our car. The furniture is decent in the room but there was a lingering musty odor and the air conditioner was very loud. The room always seemed either too cold or too warm. The bed was very comfortable with a selection of pillows from which to choose. The breakfast buffet had a nice selection of hot and cold items and was included in the price of the room - a nice plus.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the interior courtyard are private with a nicer view.

This hotel looked like it was an older property and could use an update. Our room was small, but clean, and had a mini fridge and microwave. The bed was very comfortable with a selection of firm and soft pillows. The TV had a very limited selection of channels, and the AC cycled on and off very frequently, which made it hard to get a good night’s sleep. It turned itself off completely in the morning. The bathroom was kind of cramped, and there wasn’t very much room on the bathroom counter for all my stuff. The tub/shower combo, however, was spotless and looked to be recently re-grouted as there was absolutely no mold or mildew anywhere. Wifi was free and worked quite well. Breakfast is also free. However, you are seated by a hostess before you can go to the buffet. She then brings you coffee with a “bill” for $0.00, which means that you are expected to leave a tip. There’s several shopping centers nearby which have grocery (Price Chopper) and fast food places (Subway, Panera, Dunkin Doughnuts), and a Kmart and Sears across the street.

The room was the basic Holiday Inn room. We were travelling with our dog and wanted a place that was safe and nice in Rutland and was pet friendly. This can be hard to find in Rutland, What was wonderful about the room was that there was a door to the outside for taking the dog out, so we did not have to walk him up and down the hallways to go outside and do his business. This was great especially early in the morning and late at night.

Room Tip: Great place if your travelling with your Dog.

My husband and I first stayed at this Holiday Inn three years ago while attending a car show being held at the hotel, and we found the rooms so-so. When we returned last weekend for another car show we were impressed at how much nicer the rooms were after a recent upgrade. The bathrooms were modernized and had all the touches you want in a bathroom, including good towels and decent counter surface. The beds were comfortable and had a good assortment of pillows. The furniture was in good shape. The room came standard with new television, microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. The windows open, which I like, and which became more important when the heating/cooling unit, while working fine, develop a constant irritating vibration. We just shut the unit off and enjoyed the open window the whole time. If you like an open window, then room location is important, because three sides of the hotel overlook parking lots, and especially if you have a first floor room you will not want to open your window. One side of the hotel faces lawn and woods, so ask for the "south" side if you want to enjoy the experience of opening your window. The hotel restaurant, Paynter's, is adequate. We enjoyed a simple lunch there one day. The breakfast buffet isn't elegant, but it covers all the basics from eggs, bacon, yogurt, cereal, and pancakes with Vermont maple syrup. Whether or not the buffet is free depends on your room deal, so make sure to ask about the cost of breakfast instead of assuming it's free.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side overlook lawn and woods. The other three sides of the hotel overlook parkin...
