“This diner has been around a long time, through various owners and still stays on target”
I am an unabashed diner lover. I want old, I want vintage, I want, yeh, grease. Greasy burgers, crisp dark fries. I usually eat healthy but get me near a diner and all that goes out the window.
I lived in Quechee, VT for 11 years and the Quechee Diner was there for all of them. It went through several owners, ups and downs but has remained true to local food and the old diner image.
The current owners opened in April, following owners who pledged to only use local food. The new owners have deviated from that a bit, and I am not surprised. Sometimes going totally local, getting too avant garde just doesn't work with a diner image. The current owners still get most things local but it's back to solid breakfasts, good sandwiches and desserts. Diner fare...
I had my usual diner yardstick - cheeseburger and fries and it met the diner test for the right amount of grease and taste. My wife was more into breakfast and had a solid breakfast omelet.
The diner is located in Quechee Gorge Village, which features and huge antique mall and other businesses. it is a bit of a tourist trap and for that reason, it's always busy. In fact, the diner has a sign on the door warning you that they make each meal from scratch and that if you want fast food, go somewhere else, particularly peak summer and without question, during Fall foliage.
As you can see from the picture the diner has the old railroad car look, but it also is attached to a building and so has seating beyond the core diner. Still, on a busy day plan on having some good conversation while you wait for your food.
Also consider that if you are in a hurry, why are you in Vermont in the first place?
