We stayed two nights at Quechee Inn in August in order to attend a family wedding on the property. We were absolutely delighted by this charming and gracious country inn and would highly recommend it to others who are vacationing in Vermont.
From the moment we drove up we were struck by how beautiful the inn and its surroundings are. The gardens and lawns are well tended and there is ample free parking directly in front of the inn. Check in was swift and friendly and we were shown to our room by an employee. We were on the second floor in room 7, just off the front verandah and overlooking the front lawn. The room was light, bright and clean. The décor was really lovely. The air conditioning was running when we arrived and the temperature was very comfortable. The room was not large, but plenty big enough for the two of us. There was a closet with hangers and iron provided, as well as a bureau and television (with many cable channels). The bathroom was quite small in this room, but it wasn’t a problem for us.
We visited several other rooms on the second floor and they were all a little different. We loved all the rooms along the main hall that face out towards the verandah. They’re large and nicely decorated. However, other family members had a suite (room 17 I believe) that was very spacious but a tad dark for our liking. I think the north side of the building may get less light in general. Our family in the suite also had some trouble with burned out light bulbs and backed up plumbing, but those issues were attended to after the front desk was notified. Our room was much less expensive than the suite and we liked it a lot better. We had no problems there whatsoever.
I should mention that the weekend we stayed there the inn was booked to capacity and very busy with all the wedding preparations. However, there was always someone available at the front desk to answer questions, provide maps and recommend restaurants. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the inn each morning. There was a large selection including cereals, muffins, pancakes or waffles, sausage or bacon, eggs, potatoes, coffee and juices. We also enjoyed sitting in the lounge area at night when the bar was open. It’s a great spot to chat with other guests. The wedding’s rehearsal dinner was held on the back lawn and went perfectly. Food and service were wonderful. The wedding itself was absolutely spectacular. The location is so beautiful, and the Inn is clearly skilled at putting on a fine event. From the ceremony to the reception, everything was just lovely. The food was delicious and the service was top notch.
We did have time to explore the village of Quechee and were delighted by how charming and friendly it is. Based on the recommendations made to us at the inn, we ate at Firestone’s and the restaurant at the Simon Pearce glass factory. Both were great, with Simon Pearce being truly special and delicious. We loved the gorge and all the activities available in the area. All in all, we really couldn’t have had a better experience at Quechee Inn and in the town of Quechee. Certainly, when you come to a country inn you shouldn’t expect a Four Seasons type of environment- it's more rustic than that. But we found the inn to be everything we had hoped for and more.
