“Crabcakes, One of the Specialties of the Pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

Over the years, we have eaten many times here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff are helpful, especially in the pub, when looking for a recommendation of one of Jasper Murdoch's Alehouse special brews on tap. In the summer, you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy a beer or a meal, but there is not much of a view, as it overlooks the side of the Dan & Whit's building. Cars also drive past into the rear parking lot, so it can be noisy. We often choose the crabcakes here, washed down with an Old Slipperyskin India Pale Ale or a Whistling Pig Red Ale, before going on to a late movie in Hanover. I have also enjoyed Oh Be Joyful!

Breakfast is a more leisurely meal in the main dining room, where you can have the choice of oatmeal or granola, fresh fruit, egg dishes (but I recommend skipping the home-fries with the Eggs Benedict, if you are watching your diet), pancakes, and the like. The waitresses will constantly refill your coffee cups, and it is a nice way to start the day. The menu for lunch has a wide choice, and, in addition to the usual salads, soups, and traditional pub fare, there are some more substantial entrees, including vegetarian dishes. This summer, I particularly enjoyed the poached salmon, served with citrus/cilantro butter and cucumber slaw. Dinner is an expanded version of the lunch menu but with the addition of heartier beef entrees and a choice of several fish, including catfish, and a couple of Asian dishes. I tend to stick with fish or chicken and a salad here.

“Good food and beer, but we gave up”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We stopped at the Norwich Inn for lunch on our way home from vacation for several years. Last year (2011), we went into the pub, which had only 1 table occupied. Ten minutes later, no server. I went out to speak to the manager at the front desk (it's an inn); he assured me we would be attended to shortly. Ten minutes later, no attention at all, so we left. A shame, since the food and beer are very good.

“Hanover Alternative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

Instead of going to Hanover, try this place. The food is very good and the craft-brewed beers are interesting.

“Great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

We were in Vermont and decided to look around for brewpubs. We found Jasper Murdock's Alehouse here on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try.

The Alehouse is set in the Norwich Inn which is a very nice looking building. The Alehouse has a bar and seating areas. They have 6 beers on tap which they brew on site. I tried the Whistling Pig Red Ale. It was very good. The beers are cold, but not as cold as mainstream beers are served allowing the nuances of the beer to come out. We were able to try a small sample of the Fuggle and Barleycorn which was very good. You are able to buy bottles of the beer at the front desk on the way out.

I had the brisket sandwich for lunch. The brisket was tender and had good smoke flavour. The sandwich came with home made chips, which were cooked well, but a little under seasoned. My friend had the cheddar burger which was good.

If you are in the Norwich Vt area, or looking for a day trip is you are a little further away, stop by the Norwich Inn and go to Jasper Murdock's Alehouse for the craft beer.
