Everything about this Inn was great. It is run to a high standard and is very welcoming. It is a step across the road to the waterfront, and very peaceful and tranquil.
All the staff were friendly and we enjoyed talking to staff and owners in the bar before dinner. The food was excellent. It was hard to choose but we had: salmon, tomato, mushroom and asparagus linguine (superb); bread salad; half rack of lamb; pork steak; crème brulee and maple syrup cheesecake. The choice of wines was good.
Our room (301) was beautifully furnished and decorated with a lovely bathroom – clawfoot bathtub that filled instantly and a separate (great) shower. The bedroom had a cosy chair and window seat - where you can sit and look out at Lake Champlain - the bed was supremely comfortable, and the room had an alarm clock/radio with i-pod dock. There was an understated elegance that made the place fantastically welcoming as well as chic.
The sitting room was well-furnished and very peaceful considering it combined the reception area too. It was nice to sit and read in here with a tray of tea and cakes.
The Hero’s Welcome general store (with post office attached) is worth a visit, as is the craft shop between there and the hotel (all a short walk). We only stayed one night (wish it had been longer), so can’t give an impression of activities for visitors who do stay longer, but it did seem, from what we saw on the drive, and information leaflets at the hotel, that there is plenty to do both on and off the water.
