This hotel is ok, the room was clean and close to Lake Mempremagog and Main Street shops and restaurants. There is a small fitness center and pool. Did not get much hospitality or service from the reception, but maybe she was just having a bad day. The A/C in my room did not work very well.

Given Newport's proximity to Jay Peak, it's the logical place to crash the night before skiing at Jay, especially when cost is a consideration. Having stayed at a former chain spot up the road in Derby in previous years, I decided to take a chance on the Newport City Motel. When you pull in, it definitely conjures up images of the old motor-court motels of bygone years, though I understand there are some remodeled sections as well. I checked in on a chilly, windy 20-something degree evening and discovered my room was quite cold. Either they kill the heat between occupancies to save money, or it was left that way from a recent unseasonable warmup. Anyhow, I checked in, threw my bags down, turned on the heat and went into town to grab a bite. The room was small. No big deal as I was travelling solo this time, but it would have felt a bit cramped for a couple. The bathroom was clean, well-appointed, but also quite small. The decor was a bit dated, and curiously, under the small table under the floor, was the imprint of an iron burn on the carpet! Oops. The pillows were unusually small, but overall the bed was decently comfortable. Very limited TV lineup, though they do have NESN. If you opt for the continental breakfast, prepare to be disappointed, lots of stale mini-muffins and unimpressive coffee... thankfully a small country store is a quick walk for a decent cup of joe. In a town with few lodging options, this is a "safe" option. It isn't the Sheraton, but it's no fleabag either.

Newport City Motel appears to have been recently renovated. Our room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The indoor pool and hot tub were surprisingly large and well maintained. Breakfast was included and was basic but complete. You'll have to drive to get to the nicer part of town, but Newport City Motel is a solid choice for the price.

Didn't realize there was an old vs. new portion, but our room was a clean and restful place just for the night on our way up to Jay Peak. Expected less from the "motel" and the rate, but pleasantly suprised. Super clean bathroom! Good location and not sure if I agree with the breakfast comments from other reviewers. The room where we had breakfast had plenty of space in a room with all windows at the end of the building. There was the regular pastries, coffee, juices, yoplait and oatmeal.

Room Tip: New vs. Old rooms

Neat, quiet and close to The Brown Cow (homemade raisin bread is to die for!) Simple to find, and very well kept. The staff was friendly at the front desk and the pool was a welcome retreat for a cold January day. Make sure you go down the hill and check out the other restaurants in town - Baan Thai, Le Belvedere, The East Side, Lago's Trattoria, Habaneros - such a nice surprise to have so many dining choices in one quaint town.

Nice, very clean hotel in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Our family has stayed there twice, once in the summer, and then again this past weekend. Hotel staff is accommodating, giving us helpful guidance to restaurants and stores in the area. Beds are not the most comfortable, but fine for a short stay. Both rooms we have had have been very clean and well maintained. Free continental breakfast, although not fancy, is adequate to get travelers started on their day. All in all, a comfortable stay at a reasonable price.
