Having been patrons of Athena's Diner in St Albans, we decided to give Apollo a try last Saturday. Never again. There is a sign that asks you to please wait to be seated. Wait staff and hostess are milling around, ignoring patrons waiting to be seated. Finally, the hostess, with an "I could care less" attitude attempts to seat us at a booth that had been just mopped down - the seat was literally soaking wet. We asked for another booth. After being seated, The waitress did come right over and ask if we wanted coffee to which we replied yes and we also ordered. Having had the "skillet" breakfasts before, we both decided to have one - my husband chose the 3 meat and I the Vermonter. Both of us asked for ours with poached eggs. 20 minutes later they arrived - luke warm and with the eggs poached to hard. I was finally able to flag down our waitress and asked her to please ask the chef for properly cooked poached eggs. She wanted to take my entire skillet back. I did not agree as we had waited 20 minutes the first time. Another 15 minutes goes by and out come the eggs - again, hard. The waitress asked how things were and we were very frank with her. To her credit, she did not charge me for my breakfast but stated the issue was their normal cook was "off for a week." No excuse - a poached egg is a basic breakfast item and food should come out hot, not warm. Well below industry standards and below Department of Health requirements.
