“Great Atmosphere, but a Bit Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

We had dinner here - our second visit. The atmosphere is great - very eclectic and funky. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib. I also had the salad bar. We both thought that the prime rib was very tender, but did not have a lot of flavor. The salad bar is extensive - it is an additional $6.00 with dinner. I would probably go here again, but don't think I would go out of my way.......Our waitress was very nice.

“More Ice than Fire”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Fire and Ice is an elaborately decorated place, with several different rooms, and a festive atmosphere. We liked the wooden motorboat. The food is good if you stick to pub basics. The burger was good. It has a salad bar. This is a good place for a family gathering. But the scallops were off a bit, not quite right, not good, so I would stay away from sea food here.

“Not quite as promised”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

The servers suggested great dining awaited us but perhaps the fact that it took at least 10 minutes to bring the menu should have been a warning - no the pub was not busy. The ravioli my wife ordered was undercooked but the chef said if he cooked it more it would turn to mush. By this time 45 minutes had passed so she ordered a caesar and a cheese tart to go, not cheap and not good. The fish and chips weren't bad but a five star dining experience this wasn't!

“Excellent Dining Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

This is a lovely restaurant, for many reasons. The menu is varied, with great meat and seafood dinners, plus options for vegetarians. The salad bar is phenomenal!....huge variety for creating tossed salads, but also shrimp, pasta salads, breads, olives, cheeses, etc. The salad bar has its own room, and a restored small wooden motorboat houses some of the options! Nice that you can even order the salad bar separately and feel completely satiated!

Then there's the atmosphere....many different separate rooms, each one with its own character with old photographs on the walls, memorabilia from the town's Middlebury College....fascinating decor everywhere you look. The smaller rooms make for typically a quieter dinner environment. Service is excellent too.

We locals find the prices a tad high, but for a special dining experience, this is our frequent choice. For out-of-towners on vacation, it's a must to visit for a dinner that you won't soon forget!

“Good Hearty Meals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

I went here last week to have the last dinner of my trip. I heard about this place from a local and I'm so glad I did decide to try it. First off, they have this huge salad bar with seafood that's only six dollars. Second, their prime rib was amazing; the meat was tender, juicy and just so wonderful. Third, there were so many neat things on the wall to look at--it was entertaining. The service was wonderful. It got crowded FAST. If you can make reservations you should.
