We toured the New England states this past week. Stayed one night at Swift House in the Addison room. The room was adequate, not luxurious. The metal bed rattled and squeaked on every turn. The linen was very nice, comfy. The claw foot tub took 45 minutes to fill half way, so finally took a shower instead. The room was very warm and had no air conditioning, so had a fan brought up. The inn keepers were gracious and personable. The inn common areas are warm and well appointed. The grounds were immaculate. Breakfast was delightful and dinner was tasty, but small portions for the cost. I would not recommend a future stay, due to cost vs. amenities.

Room Tip: Ask about sq. footage. Wide angle lenses are deceptive. The carriage rooms were more updated.

We always want the Inn to meet or exceed our guests expectations when they stay with us. In this case we missed the mark and are sorry. We have reviewed our, procedures and the room. Sometimes mother nature makes things difficult for us. Our rooms each have individual heat or air conditioning controls and thermostats. Unfortunately it is one or the other for the entire building. With average temps at this time of year between 40 to 60 the air conditioning was shut down for the season, a 77 degree day was a surprise and made us scramble. However the temp made for a fabulous day in Vermont! The full and hearty breakfast is always complimentary .We did not use a wide angle lens for room pictures on the website nor were the rooms overly styled for the pictures. Please see the Review "Historic Inn, modern comforts" below as this is a review of the same room.

Stayed here during an Inn to Inn bike tour. We stayed in the Black Hawk room which was not in the main house. Our room was extra large - especially for an inn. We had a huge bath with a jacuzzi tub that was also the shower. All was very clean. No trouble with the Wifi - bed was comfortable & had the best sheets ever - Comphy brand sheets. Nice bath products & robes were included. We had a gas fire place in the room - and although a little chilly while we were there, it was not available to use. Not sure - would have been nice. The owner visited us at breakfast & was very helpful. Breakfast was great - and there was coffee, fruit, cookies & newspapers available in the public areas.

I spent an enjoyable mid-week break here a few days ago. Occasionally one pays for atmosphere with a degree of discomfort, but such was not the case at Swift House. The room was scrupulously clean, the bed comfortable, the bathroom spacious (I've stayed in rooms no larger) with claw-footed tub, a small stall shower, sufficient hot water and nice towels. Robes also were supplied. The TV was flat screen and wall mounted. A cooked breakfast is offered in the room charge as well as the usual cold buffet. The owner made the rounds each morning to greet each guest personally and answer any questions. The wait staff is also very knowledgeable about the locality and will supply some harmless gossip about the town. There is dinner available at night which was excellent, and the homemade cookies at teatime were a nice touch. I've stayed in several historic inns in the area and this is the one to which I'd return.

Room Tip: The photos on the hotel website appear to represent the rooms honestly

This was our 2nd or 3rd visit. Owners are super-friendly and knowledgeable. They guided us to good bicycling routes and gave good advice on our desire to drive over the mountain notch to Route 100 (Rochester, VT). Good service. We stayed in the house nearest to Route 7, front room on first floor. It had a very high bed, almost impossible for me to get into (I'm a little over 5 feet tall). Dan says they plan to replace it. Luckily (sort of) the temps were nudging 100 degrees, which meant we had to leave the window a/c on constantly. This helped mask the sound of the state road, which is a main truck route and busy through the night.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, don't book a room in the house near Route 7. Stay in the two main...

This is a very long overdue review for my favorite B&B! My husband and I got engaged at the Swift House Inn almost 9 years ago but we have been back several times since then. Most recently, we were there in February and our stay was as wonderful as it always is. Michele and Dan are amazing innkeepers, who always make the time to catch up with us and make us feel so at home. They go above and beyond to help us, even lending us their snowshoes on our last stay. We typically stay in the Woodbury Room in the Carriage House, which is beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable. Suzy and Tom are two of our other longtime favorites at the SHI. Suzy is always a smiling face at the reception and is happy to give advice on everything from snow shoeing trails to which restaurants have the best drinks :) And Tom has been pouring us delicious and innovative cocktails for years now! He even kept the bar open late for us on our last trip because we were coming back from dinner and wanted to have a night cap. Dinner at Jessica's is not to be missed either. The menu is always fresh and interesting and we've never had a disappointing meal there. If you are looking for a getaway at a wonderful B&B where you will feel at home, the Swift House Inn is the place. We feel like family when we are there and can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: The Woodbury Room in the Carriage House is our favorite. Semi-private entrance, fireplace, hot tub...

We stayed in a lovely Carriage House room. It was big, nicely finished and very comfortable. The whirlpool tub was appreciated after a long bike ride. The restaurant was very good too. The Inn was considerably bigger than a B&B, but much more charming than an impersonal hotel.

I do not know what could have been done to make our experience better. Our room in the Carriage House was magnificent. Breakfast on the terrace was superb each of our three days there. We strongly recommend having dinner at least one night at Jessica's Restaurant. The menu has something to satisfy every taste. The use of local products further enhances the dishes offered. Their wine selection is surprisingly extensive and very fairly priced. Tommy (the bartender) was very knowledgable about the selections on their wine list and helped us pick the right pairing each evening. Throughout our stay the Browns and their staff were constantly working to make sure our stay was relaxing and fun. We are looking forward to making a return trip to The Swift House Inn
