“Fabulous Valentine's Day”

My husband and I had stayed at the Inn years ago, and decided to return for a night away from the kids on Valentine's Day. I know they say eating out that evening is never great, but I beg to differ. We had a fabulous meal - one to rival some of the best restaurants in Burlington. The chef, Elias Sater, offered a three course meal that evening. I started with Oysters slightly broiled (so yummy) while my husband had an outstanding clam chowder. We each had the tenderloin steak, followed by great desserts, especially the carmal ice cream. Our server knew the short but sufficient wine list well and made a great suggestion.

Elias also brought out a dish of his basil ice cream with balsamic reduction. The whole experience was great and I highly recommend dinner there again.

“A wonderful fall weekend at the Middlebury Inn”

Middlebury Inn

Oct 11, 2007

We stayed at the Middlebury Inn for 3 nights in early Oct. Our room, 116, was a large and lovely double-queen room with beautiful wallpaper, an enormous bathroom, and a separate sitting room with bookshelves, a second TV, and a small fridge. The furnishings and curtains were beautiful, and we had a lovely corner view of the village green. Middlebury is located in a beautiful area in Vermont that is perfect for those who enjoy fall foliage, museums, visits to colleges in the area, or just spending quiet time in a large and lovely inn with beautiful rooms, large and comfortable public spaces, and wonderful food and hospitality. Room rates include room-service coffee or tea each morning, a wonderful breakfast buffet, afternoon tea, free internet access and wi-fi, and free and convenient parking. It is, as it has always been, a destination in and of itself, and we hope that the new owners limit their renovations so that return visitors (and there are many) will continue to look forward to coming back to the Inn that they have enjoyed for decades. The Middlebury Inn has a history that goes back to 1827, and it was a highlight of our fall vacation. We look forward to returning.

“Finest Vermont Hospitality”

Middlebury Inn

Sep 22, 2007

This inn is a great example of the finest in Vemont hospitality. The inn itself is very 'quaint' with an elevator that still needs an operator!!. The rooms are quite small, as one should expect from a 100+ year hotel. They are also quiet, comfortable and clean. We had a room that overlooked the main street but we never heard the traffic outside. The beds seemed brand new and were very comfortable. The staff were friendly, professsional and helpful. The dinner we enjoyed was not haute cuisine but was tasty and well priced. My wife and I highly recommend this inn, but remember it is more than 100 years old so don't expect the Marriott. If you want the feel a 'traditional' Vermont Inn with associated hospitality, stay here.

“Reasonable hotel, right in the centre of things”

Middlebury Inn

Sep 18, 2007

The Middlebury Inn is a medium-sized historic hotel in the centre of Middlebury. There seem to be large variety of rooms on offer, reflecting the building's history, with the front coming from the 1820s, the middle bit from the 1900s (where we stayed) and a motel block from the 1960s. The room was reasonable, but the bathroom a little antiquated but clean. The property is a bit big to be an inn, more like a hotel I'd say, but I guess in Vermont you have to be an "Inn" to attract trade. A reasonable breakfast, including eggs and homefries, comes with all room rates as well as afternoon tea (although we weren't there on either day to sample it), and we had an evening meal one night which was very good. A good place if you're in Middlebury but I wouldn't go there just to stay at this Inn.

Great location, nice welcome, friendly staff, impeccably clean and comfortable room. Terrific breakfast. Convenient business center. Loved the books scattered everywhere. Here's hoping the new owners don't try to "upgrade" everything. The only feature which could stand improvement is the elevator.
