“Comfortable, Friendly, Affordable, and Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

I came for a music festival (Snoe.Down), not primarily for winter sports, and I chose this place (online) because of its location -- close to Killington as well as to Rutland where the nightly concerts are held. I also chose it because it had the right balance of price and amenities. But you never really know until you get there.

Home run! What a great experience! The whole place has the feel of a B&B. Super-friendly service at the front desk, service at breakfast (which was tasty, home-cooked, and filling), and bar. The staff is very knowledgeable about the area and about *music*. Heaven! Lots of great conversations, and local recommendations, and a real interest in the festival, in the artists, and in me.

Add to this the beautiful views of Pico Mountain, the trees, and the snow from the dining room and bar, a warm, cheery fire, a pint or two of Long Trail, and you have a great weekend getaway or home base for a week of fun in the snow. Thank you, Patrick, Max, and Lenore. You made my weekend memorable, and I'll definitely be back!

Sure there are places closer to Killington that are fancier abd cost a lot more and there are places in Rutland that are bare bones and cost a lot less but this place fit right in between.

Much of the fittings and furniture date from the 80's and they seem to be in the process of being restored or slowly replaced. There is a sort of time warp feel to the place but it's far from decrepit. On the contrary, the place is clean and cheerful, with fresh paint and linens. Our room on the back side had a mountain view and was very large, with room for all the stuff that seems to follow skiers around.

Breakfast is included and was above average BUT be aware that breakfast is the only meal. Plan on lunch and dinner elsewhere as they haven't expanded to a full service food situation. REMEMBER your bathing suit for hot tub and sauna. I didn't remember and regret it.

We arrived late, but received a warm welcome from the Lodgekeeper who pointed out the tray of cookies and cider by the fireplace. (which was not "roaring" but still very nice... We ski at Killington a lot and usually stay at a chain in Rutland. Good enough, but there is something about the open space and high ceilings and the "Lodgy" feel that makes tthe MountainView very special.

While not "5 star", (and not trying to be, I suppose,,, ) there is a feel to the place that makes you feel like you're back in time to what Vermont Skiing was meant to be. When you enjoy your breakfast, you'll know what I mean. During my stay there was Orange, Grapefruit and Apple Juices, Yogurt, Fresh Fruit, Cereal, Toasts, Scrambled Eggs, Mexican Scrambled Eggs, Pancakes French Toast,(w/ VT Maple Syrup) Bacon, Sausage and Red Skin Potatoes with onion, peppers, etc. There was also Coffee Cake, Muffins and coffee, tea and I think thats about it .. The young ladies who serve breakfast are amiable and took the time to chat with us and learn our names. When the Mexi Eggs ran out they were replaced quickly by the cook (Chef?) The views of Pico were nice as was the rolling woods beyond the parking lot. There is a Bar there (Beer wine) which was cosy and nice... A few of the guests were there and I wished I could join them, but I had work to do.
The layout is nice as the first floor is actually the second floor. So only one flight up or down to breakfast and the Bar, etc. Our room had a great view of Pico and had a fireplace(worked great) which was pretty cool. There were a lot of channels on the TV... Why so many, I don't know but there were. The room was Lodge Perfect and fit the overall feel very well. The bath had a built in Jacuzzi and heat lamp and both were nice after skiing. The Hot Tub was nicer, but that is another story !

On the lower level, below the Entry. Common Areas was a good sized game room w/ air hockey fooseball and bocce. There were a couple of dozen games (monopoly, etc etc) and a large flat screen tv. There was also a tea set if you enjoy that kind of thing !
What really comes across is the friendliness of the staff, both individually and as a whole. And the Lodge itself does not disappoint either... I hope you'll have the same kind of experience I did as we really enjoyed the amenities and hospitality we enjoyed while spending less than what we had been paying in Rutland and (a LOT) less than on the Access Road.

I have made several trips to Killington and Rutland over the years but have never stayed at a place like this.
My friends and I came up for a long weekend and were floored by the friendly service across the board, the delicious & hearty breakfast (thank you Maggie & Connie) and the friendly owner who let us check out of the room 4 hours late so that we could catch some extra ski time.

The rooms are clean and spacious and the whole place has a friendly vibe. Last but not least, the lodge is only a 5-7 minute drive to Killington so that part was a cinch. Thank you to Mendon MtnView Lodge for making my stay memorable.

Mike

We stayed at the lodge with 2 children and the hotel was perfect for a 3 day ski weekend to Pico, which is about 3 minutes up the road. The room was satisfactory, and we were lucky to be in an end unit, so noise from other rooms wasn't too bad. The hot breakfast was simple, yet ample and on the mid week day we were there, guests order from a menu, rather than the buffet trays they put out on Sat/ Sun. The staff arranged for discounted ski lift tickets. Although there is no food other than breakfast served at the hotel, they intend on opening a restaurant. There is a bar that opens in the evening, however. The lower level has a game room, fireplace, sauna, hot tub, large TV and library, which was a nice place to hang out outside the room. As they make upgrades, I would encourage them to linstall a non-carpeted place for boots under the coat. We tried McGrath's Irish Pub on a Saturday night and it was too crowded, so we ended up returning on Sunday and it was much less crowded.

This is a really nice place, great lobby, great breakfast (serves at 7am, early than most places), extremely friendly, helpful staff, the rooms are modern (except for the 1980s TV), clean, good sized...BUT the walls and ceilings are rediculously thin. We could here the conversation in the room next door and their alarm go off in the AM. Too bad, great place, but hard to get a good nights sleep. Maybe ok for younger people who go to bed late, but a bad choice if you are trying to go to bed early with kids. Might be better in the summer if there are fewer people arriving late from being out at night.

Room Tip: paper thin walls are a challenge here

Hotel staff is great. Patrick will take care of you from behind the desk and Connie will make sure you're fed well. Convenient location to Pico and Killington with many places to eat and drink in between. McGraths Irish Pub is up the road a bit and a great place to eat, drink and listen to some great music.

Only downside is that the walls are thin so you can hear people moving around in the morning. But you're there to get up and ski so why sleep late?

Room Tip: Top floors will have less noise
