“Rural Gem of a Cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Found by accident on Rte 2 N. of Montpelier in 2011, this year I planned my trip through NY, VT, NH and ME to arrive in Marshfield for lunch. This time instead of the Empanada I had the B'stilla with Greek Salad and it was outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed the Butternut Crunch dessert while listening to others praise the St. Honore pastries. This place is definitely on my list of "not to miss" dining experiences!

“Fantastic food and ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

8 of us from Florida had just toured Cabot Cheese and were on our way to tour the Barre granite quarry and were looking for a non-chain restaurant for lunch. We really lucked out when we found Rainbow Sweets, a gourmet bakery and cafe under the same ownership since 1976. The proprietor had us in stitches from the moment we entered. Can't understand how anyone could be offended by the banter. Maybe it's that those offended in a prior review were having a bad day. Food was delicious. Pastries were the absolute best that we had ever experienced. In fact, brought a large box of assorted pastries back to our vacation home in Stowe to enjoy for the rest of our stay, I will go as far out of my way as necessary to eat there again on my next visit to Vermont. Highly recommend this restaurant and be sure to read the clippings from national publications that sing their praises.

“Nice deserts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

This place was on our way and we decided to come in even after some reviews said the owner is an unpleasant person. Well - to us he was very nice. Telling us everything he baked for us and asking about us- who we are and where we come from.. He made us smile. The pastry we took were good. We had better in our life's but they are good. I wont come here special but if its on your way stop and buy something sweet to go....

“One of the best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

My wife and I stopped at this restruant thinking we would just have a bowl of soup. It is a small place which could use more room. We waited and then ordered one of their specialties but the main one is at the end when this person is pushing his desserts. If one is not use to him, one would consider him as rude but he is humorous. If you want just water to drink, he calls it a desert cocktail. But his desserts are outstanding in that they use real whipped cream instead of cool whip. I am looking forward already to next fall to make a stop. BTW, the wait to get a table was well worth it.

“Superb Lunch, Pastries and Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

We cannot say enough about the fantastic time we had at Rainbow Sweets! We found the best food (and local touring information) at this small cafe in Marshfield. Do not miss the St. Honore pastry and Bstilla for lunch. We even took brioche and baklava with us for the next day.
The owner and staff gave us touring suggestions and a map to Peacham (winding back road) that we never would have found. This was our best experience on our trip to Vermont!
