“A place where attention to detail and tranquility meet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

I stayed with a friend at The Inn at Manchester again recently, after attending some music concerts at Tanglewood at Lenox, Massachusetts. It was the fourth time that I have stayed here and I have never been disappointed. The Inn's rooms are in two buildings on a large treed property in the village of Manchester on historic Route 7A; it is NOT in the larger city of Manchester in New Hampshire. The village remains small in scale but with a larger than usual proportion of good restaurants and interesting boutiques and shops and a concern for keeping the smaller scale and density and genuineness of the place.

The main building at the Inn is a grand house with a choice of several interesting rooms and groups of rooms, some smaller and others quite generous in size. Every room receives detailed attention daily by the staff. We stayed in a suite with a bedroom, a study with large couch and desk and satellite TV, and a bathroom with shower in the main house. There is a second building now next to the pool where new rooms have been developed with all the conveniences including jacuzzi and spacious accommodations. The large perfectly groomed grounds are open to guests including two large hammocks between three of the larger trees on the property. The open air swimming pool is remarkable for its scenic placement against the Green Mountains in the background and the care with which it is maintained. You experience no chlorine overdose in your eyes but it is treated each day to ensure its quality.
The owners, Frank and Julie Haynes, and their staff are always available to suggest great places to eat or things to do nearby. Frank cooks an interesting dish each morning for breakfast and he prepares eggs and bacon or sausages as you want, if you prefer not to have the main dish. Cereals, juices, and a selection of tea and coffee are always there. The paintings and gentile decor all reinforce the tranquility one finds at this Inn which everyone who stops here is, i find, reluctant to leave. I cannot recommend this Inn more highly for anyone who wants comfort, a hearty welcome, assistance with special requirements and a tranquility that removes you from the stress of city life. You know as soon as you drive up the circular drive to the main house that this is a special place to be savoured and appreciated. Submitted by Peter Howden, Barrie, Ontario, August 3,2012.

Room Tip: The rooms in the building next to the pool are newer, spacious and have more complete conveniences...

We stayed there for three nights in July 2012 and it was wonderful. The Inn is immaculate and so historic. The owners Frank and Julie go out of their way to make you feel welcome. All of the staff are so hospitable. The rooms are clean, the beds very comfortable. The pool is refreshing. The dining room is inviting and the breakfasts scrumptious. The Inn is right in the village so you can walk easily to restaurants and shops. Hildene, the former home of Robert Todd Lincoln is just minutes away and well worth the visit. We would definitely return to the Inn at Manchester.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Black Eyed Susan for two nights and it was excellent. Then for our third night we m...

We stayed for three nights in the Green Briar Suite. The room is located in the Carriage House and is just wonderful. Extremely private and peaceful. The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed sitting outside our suite to enjoy morning coffee and evening cocktails. We used to stay at the Equinox when it was a real Vermont location then switched to the 1811 House before it was purchase by the Equinox. We have now found our home away from home and plan on returning year after year!

Must husband and I just returned from an overnight at the Inn. We were looking for a simple getaway. I googled bed and breakfast with a pool (always a must for me) and up came the Inn at Manchester, the pictures looked promising, I made a reservation and finally, off we went. What a pleasant surprise to find that everything was even better than the pictures. The pool was in a beautiful setting and long enough for my laps! The room, "lavender" at the back of the inn on the first floor was lovely and private. The inn itself was spotless and charming. But, most compelling was the homey embrace one felt as we were shown around the inn. Innkeepers Frank and Julie were so friendly, fun and down to earth as was their staff. Their poodle, Chai, was a perfect love. As I was swimming my laps I decided that this would become a yearly event and my husband concurred enthusiastically. We can't wait to return!

My husband and I stayed there for four nights in early June. We found it to be very comfortable and quiet, even though we were on the first floor near the back entrance. The Inn has been well cared for by Frank and Julie, who are both very hospitable and willing to help their guests. It is in walking distance of a wide variety of restaurants as well as the many outlets of Manchester. I would stay there again if I was in the Manchester area.

We hadn't been to Vermont since the Village Country Inn had closed. We even drove past it before checking in to the Inn at Manchester which was depressing to see. Well from the moment we checked in till the moment we left on Sunday we Loved the Inn, Julie and Frank are the nicest people and the Inn and the grounds are incredible. It was such a relaxing and wonderful experience and we met some very nice couples also while having a drink in the lounge. It is a must stay Inn and we look forward to returning!!!
