“Best bang for your buck in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

My fiance and I were in town recently for a wedding. We called several hotels/motels in Manchester and found most were priced in the 150-200 range. We settled for the Avalance strictly based on price - 99/night - and had very low expectations.

Wow, were we wrong. The new owners have done a fantastic job renovating the property. The king bed was very comfortable and everything in the room was clean and orderly. We were quite surprised considering the rate. The continental breakfast was a nice perk too. The owner and his family could not have been more helpful - we highly recommend the Avalanche Motel for all visitors that pass through southern Vermont.

my husband and I had made reservations for the weekend and we were a little afraid because of the reviews since we were traveling with our baby and the dog. when we got there we were happily surprised with the motel, the new owners are redoing the place very nicely and they were extremely friendly and provided excellent service, the place was very clean, everything looked brand new, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was decent, there are flat screen tv on the rooms, the bathroom was a little small but nice. we will definitely go back.

Stopped by in a local restaurant for a very late dinner on our road trip ro niagara. We asked the waitress if she have any recommendation to spend d night and she gave us this place. Called to check the rate and it sounded reasonable $80+ with tax for that night. we also checked out chalet motel but it was more xpensive so we decided to look at this place first.
2 miles to downtown manchester village. Room 16 had a new paint smell when we walked in. Bathroom, furniture, carpeting looks new. The couple who are d new owner were very pleasant and accomodating .
Will definitely return if me or my family is ever in d area.

I didn't stay - but stopped in for a look - rooms are a bit smaller than chalet motel, and access is via an internal hallway, but things were nice and clean, and owners said all new mattresses, there is new paint and carpet and flat screen Tv in the rooms I saw. At 70$ a night this might be worth a try. Downsides - I cannot say how the noise is here, and there may be some fresh paint smell to deal with for a while, but price is definitely right. A young Indian couple is renovating the place.

Well, this is almost comical. We drove up to the motel and they were having a garage sale; selling off big pieces of furniture. In addition, there was a big sign saying that the motel was being auctioned off. Bad sign. I had read the reviews and had tried to get another place but many of the motels wouldn't book for just one night, and others were booked up completely. Well, the room was worn out and old. The carpet was multi-stained and torn. The bathroom door didn't close completely. There was a huge web with a spider and several dead insects under the table in the room. In the bathroom, the shower curtain looked new but there was an even bigger web and spider by the toilet. My nephews wanted to check out the pool. There was no chlorine in it...just a hose stuck in. There were beer cans, towels, cigarette butts and just general trash everywhere. EWWW. We decided to spend as little time as possible at the motel so we went out. Later, we were kept up by one of the owners who was drinking out of a paper bag. He was loud and definitely drunk. I'm not surprised these rednecks lost their motel.

The people that own and run the place were slovenly rednecks! Unavailable, discourteous, unkempt and lazy! We had to track them down, finding them at the pool, totally disinterested in our checking in needs. As we drove around to our room (last one in the back, so we could see that all of the rooms from the outside were the same) we could see how falling apart the building was. We could barely get in to our rooms, the key and lock so crude. Of course, the dead bolt didn't work, once inside the room. Cinder block construction, the curtain was half off which quickly became completely off when I tried to fix it. The bathroom door didn't close, the soap dish in tub....well...you would just have to see it to believe its 'fixed' construction. The tiny TV (from the '60's) remote didn't work. The small air conditioner looked toxic (mold), although we had to use it and it did work!
I can not imagine anyone returning to this place, after being duped in to going there. I only went (not realizing the conditions) because I was so late in reserving a room, that there were no others in town available.

Room Tip: Reserve early in this beautiful town! All the good hotels fill up fast!!!!!
