“Christmas in The Curry House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We spent Christmas 2012 in the Curry House with our son who lives in NYC and his dog. Having travelled over from England, we had no prior knowledge of the hotel or its numerous houses situated on the outskirts of Manchester. We were not disappointed, the owners were very gracious and hospitable and nothing was too much trouble.
The Curry house is fine for anyone wishing to ski or board in nearby Stratton, about 30 minutes drive away, or Bromley, about 15 minutes drive, and Manchester is an absolute delight for the shops and outlets.
Whilst we were unable to use the full facilities of the hotel, (no dogs allowed) it was certainly decorated very seasonally, including large Christmas trees ( the owner even put a fully decorated tree in the house for our benefit )
We had 15 inches of snow one day, the snow ploughs were out frequently and staff were on hand to ensure we had wood for the fires and sufficient food, and to help dig out the cars and keep pathways clear.....what more could you ask for ?
If we were to be critical, the furnishings in The Curry House are a little dated, and some of the carpets would benefit from a shampoo. In the kitchen, there were more than enough plates, mugs and glass's but if you intend catering for large numbers, the cooking utensils are somewhat limited.
Overall, it is good value for money, and we would certainly revisit the area and the hotel.

Room Tip: the Curry House has 5 bedrooms, plus some other walk through rooms, and can comfortably sleep 10+ fo...

We were extremely happy with my room at this gorgeous Victorian era bed and breakfast. We arrived in the dark and woke up to an amazing panorama of the Manchester countryside. The Inn's owners were gracious and polite. The chatty breakfast waiter, Len, could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about the Inn or the town of Manchester.
Our room was clean and over sized with an updated bath and marble fireplace. The furnishings, artwork and oriental rugs that decorate the entire property was very esthetically pleasing. I think the Wilburton Inn would be an ideal location for a wedding since it has so many outbuildings in addition to the large Inn that would accommodate many guests. Perched on a hillside the manicured grounds make for an enchanting and romantic location.

Room Tip: I would choose a room with a fireplace and view of the valley as they are more updated.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 4 day Vermont trip. We wanted to stay in a place that would reflect the character and charm of the Vermont countryside, and the Wilburton did not disappoint. The inn is a beautiful and interesting place. We stayed in a nice room in the main house, which was very clean and well-maintained. The owners were friendly and extremely accommodating, and gave us good suggestions for places to eat, shop, and visit. The chef prepared made to order omelets for us each morning, as well as pancakes for other guests that looked yummy. We didn't eat dinner there, but heard from others that it was great, too. Will definitely stay here again on our next trip.

We found the grounds very pretty and quite interesting with lots of museum-like art work around. The staff and owners were friendly and helpful. The main house is lovely, especially the giant, yellow living room-grandly decorated and cheerful with windows looking out at flowering bushes, not to mention the spectacular mountains seen from all windows and the grounds. The dining room areas were very nicely done in period decor that brings one back to another place in time-very charming-lots of beautiful carved wood, fire places, high ceilings, detailed built-in book cases...I am returning to the Manchester area mid-November and I plan to stay here again!

Room Tip: The cottages are family-friendly and accommodate several people-clean and cozy! If just tow people...

First of all, the location, the grounds, views, and the mansion house, especially from the outside, are all fantastic! We stayed two nights with our Cocker Spaniel. Pet owners are only allowed in accommodations outside of the mansion, so we did not get to see any of the rooms there. The public rooms are impressive, but the buffet style breakfasts were not. Our "suite" consisted of a large room, with a small kitchen alcove, a large bath with a whirlpool tub, and a rather odd entry way with a sleep sofa facing a blank wall. Although, purportedly renovated, only the bathroom and flat-screen t.v. seemed new. The "Museum of the Creative Process" is one man's vision and a trip! It must be seen to be believed!

I proposed to my girlfriend under a street lamp at the Wilburton Inn on a beautiful October evening. To add to the surprise, I also booked two houses for friends and family and held a surprise party for her at the Twenties House with about 45 guests. Needless to say she was overwhelmed with joy. This is a beautiful piece of property overlooking the mountains. Coming from NYC, I can testify that the Wilburton Inn is truly a special place.

Despite the fact that we have spent Autumn weekends at the Equinox for years, prior to this weekend I had never been to the Wilburton Inn and was nervous about booking the event "site unseen." However, the experience could not have gone better. The owners and staff were completely accomodating; to the point where they actually took apart (and moved) some furniture to make more room. They also catered the event and worked with us in every way to make the event a success. We also hired a guitarist to play the event and towards the end of the night other guests from the Inn joined the festivities as well. In the morning we has breakfast at the Inn; in the backdrop a fog cloud floated atop equinox mountain. Perfect.

I would highly recommend the Wilburton Inn to anyone traveling to Manchester and would absolutely recommend you consider the Inn for an event.

Room Tip: We booked the Twenties Villa and the The Ortlieb Cottage
