“Beautiful, and Historic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I'd never heard of Hildene until I visited a friend in Manchester, VT, and she introduced it to me. The house is beautiful, and well preserved/maintained. Much of the original furnishings are there. The gardens were lovely, even though it was mid September. Also, the view was breath-taking. A big plus were the guides, who were extremely knowledgeable about the history of Hildene...the home of the only surviving child of Abraham Lincoln, Robert Todd. Well worth a visit.

“Hildene 1.0”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

My Jennifer knows that I'm a history buff so she suggested that Hildene as a must see. I'm so glad that she did because I was able to learn about Robert Todd Lincoln's extrodinary life. He was Abraham Lincoln's oldest son and Harvard educated. Robert served under General Ulysses Grant, was Secretary of War and president of the Pullman Car company.
The estate and the grounds are beautiful. Many couples choose to hold their weddings and receptions there.
There is a Pullman train car on the estate and a display about the Pullman Car Company. The tour guides there were extremely knowledgeable and able to answer any questions.
There is a wonderful gift shop
and it's filled with a lot of wonderful offerings such as Vermont cheese, honey and a wide variety of books.

“Nice place,well kept grounds,outdoors,farm,trails”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Robert Todd Lincoln's house built in early 1900 and occupied by/lived in by 1905. The interior of the completed portions downstairs and upstairs is soothing with a back ground instrumental music ( kept across from the stair case) . Kept alive with private donations and charity. The gardens in the back of the house are well designed and appeal to the eyes while walking through them even in warm Oct 13th day,as well as from upstairs (sitting room).Large property ( now less than 500 acres) managed privately, with new section of agriculture being added.great place for children to learn history.

“very historic place with much history in place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

A beautiful, scenic place. We learned about the Lincoln family, and the Pullman trains. Large grounds within walking distance. The place provides golf cart like transportation driven by staff for those who could not walk the distance. Helpful, and friendly staff.

The cocktail hour of a wedding reception was in the garden and it was beautiful. The food and service were exceptional.
