“Fabulous and attentive staff, beautiful property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

We just returned from a long weekend stay at the Equinox. The staff is welcoming and attentive. The Marsh Tavern and Falcon bar are fabulous. We did not have any meals at the hotel so I cannot comment on the food. However, they do provide a shuttle service to all local restaurants which was prompt and allowed us to relax and not worry about driving to and from the restaurant. Great to have that service available.
The hotel is well located to enjoy this fabulous Vermont town, the fireplaces were always glowing and warm which we loved because it was a chilly weekend.
Great suggestions by the consierge for all meals. Particularly the Chanticlere (?sp) restaurant was incredibly delicious!

Room Tip: We loved being located on the 2nd floor with a fantastic balcony off of our room.

Green Features: Loved that we could choose to decline housekeeping for the weekend, get 500 extra SPG points, and help in their environmental program.

Good afternoon and thank you for taking the time to post your review! I would agree that our ambassadors take great pride in creating a personalized experience for our guests. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to savor our new menu and experience the fare of our talented culinary team. Our Les Clefs d’Or concierge experience is an amazing way to find some of the most unique experiences we have to offer in Vermont. Lastly, the ambiance of the fireplace is timeless and I look forward to your next visit to Manchester Village!

This was a very nice, historical resort. Great location, as there are many shoppes and eateries in close proximity. My wife enjoyed the spa. The golf course was in great shape, considering the fall weather and there were not many people out.

Our favorite was the fire pit, which overlooked the back grounds and had a great mountain view. There was drink and food service around the pit, as well.

We dined at the Tavern and The Chop House, where we enjoyed the food and libation in each.

A suggestion is to take advantage of ALL the resort amenities, as there is a $25/ day resort fee charged to each room.

I would return in warmer months, as there would be many more things to do.

While I do understand this is a historic property, it still needs some work. Our first night we were placed in a room that should be a janitorial closet - musty smell and overlooked the dumpsters (note: not that anyone should be given this room but my husband and I are both SPG platinum which made it harder to understand; front desk was nice and moved us the next day). Other negatives - food was very average (e.g., oatmeal was lukewarm), hottub was tiny and faced an air conditioner unti (not very spa-like), rooms arent level, bathrooms had mold, no in-room coffee maker). Positives - friendly service, great hiking, really pretty setting. But this should not be tagged with the luxury collection.

Just spent the weekend at the Equinox Golf Resort and Spa with my daughter and nine year old granddaughter. The resort was first class. We had a huge room on the second floor with two queen beds. The staff was extremely friendly. We took advantage of the complimentary valet parking. I especially enjoyed sitting by the fire in the library before breakfast where they served complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. It was so peaceful. The breakfasts in The Colonade Room were very good. They served a full buffet or you could order off the menu. We plan on returning to the Equinox in the near future, the only thing I would change with future reservations is to request a room on the fourth floor. Because the Inn is so old the floors are not sound proof, we did hear people walking around in the room above ours.

Room Tip: Choose room on the top floor to avoid noise from rooms above.

We booked 2 nights with this resort. When we arrived there were 2 desk clerks both busy with other guests checking in or wanting information about the resort. It would be nice if one of the clerks would have acknowledged we were there waiting since we waited 10 minutes or so to get checked in. Also, we get to our room and the room isn't level. My husband put his Chapstick on the desk and it rolled off the desk toward the center of the room and the nightstand at that side of the room also looked tilted. There was something running below or near us for 24/7 that made a rumbling noise plus mold on the shower grout in the bathroom. I was ready to speak to the front desk but my husband doesn't like to complain. For this kind of money I expect a whole lot. Also, if you want coffee, you have to go to the main floor of the resort.

Room Tip: Great view of the courtyard if you don't mind walking across a room that sinks in the middle!

Keep in mind that this is a very old building when setting your expectations for this hotel. The rooms are nicely refurbished but the fact that the building itself is old means that some things are not going to be the same as you would find in more modern hotels (thin walls with almost no soundproofing, creaking floors above you, etc.). Overall, it is a beautiful, comfortable property. The staff were all very polite and accomodating with none of the preteniousness we expected. The bellmen even gave out boxed delicious apple cider donuts one morning as we were getting in our car! We only ate one meal at the Marsh Tavern and enjoyed the food but be sure to make a reservation so that you don't have to sit outside in the cold like we did. (Take note that almost all the restaurants in Manchester require reservations.) The views, especially during the fall foliage season, are second to none. The Equinox Pond, a short easy hike from the hotel, is a spectular sight to see in fall. Do yourself a favor and take the time to go to the pond!!!

Room Tip: rooms that face the street tend to be loud starting in the early morning

Let me start out by saying if you're looking for a place to stay in Manchester, VT, the Equinox Hotel is your best hotel choice based on location, service, and on site amenities. The hotel is located in a picture perfect setting with manicured lawns, a great spa, wonderful restaurants, and top notch customer service. However, compared to other luxury hotels in the Starwood portfolio, the hotel has not reached its full potential. Here are a few points of interest that will help you decided if the Equinox will be your next hotel destination.

Location - The property is located at the foot of Mount Equinox with easy access to hiking, tennis, archery, golf, fly fishing, off road adventures, shopping, and restaurants. It has it all including one of the most beautiful pond and hiking trails. The hotel is ideal for weddings, family retreats, or romantic getaways. The first few weeks in October are always beautiful with peak fall colors you usually only see in pictures. It's spectacular!

4 Hotel Location Choices - The hotel is home to four separate properties. The main hotel building is the largest and your best choice when staying at the resort primarily because it has recently been renovated. The lobby sitting areas are very charming with many options to relax and read the paper or catch up on a good book in front of a cosy fire. It also provides you the best opportunity to enjoy all the on-site amenities. The Charles Orvis Inn is located next door to the hotel. It is a quaint three story home that provides more of a B&B feel. Several of the rooms here are suites and have small outdated kitchens. Unfortunately, the historic home is poorly decorated (furniture didn't fit the room, no wall art, misplaced mirrors, and outdated/difficult to access jacuzzi/shower) and not well maintained (stained carpet, broken towel rack, dirty kitchen utensils, outdated kitchen appliances). The other two property options include the Town Homes and the 1811 House. Note these two options are not part of the Starwood family. We cannot comment on these properties since we did not stay there, however, both of these properties did not look very attractive from the outside.

Platinum Recognition - The hotel offers good Starwood recognition by upgrading our room and providing free breakfast.

Other - Note, there is a $25 resort fee that covers free valet parking, Wi-Fi, gym access, pool, etc. The pool house was perfect for those that love water at the perfect temperature that was in an enclosed structure. Since we visited in October, we can only imagine what the pool house looked like with all the exterior French doors opened during the warmer months. The gym facilities were in good condition and offered a selection of equipment.

After staying at the Equinox for four nights and having rooms in the main hotel and Charles Orvis Inn, we still recommend staying at the Equinox. However, make sure and get a room in the hotel's main building.
