4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Had a great time here- the staff was really nice and helpful. They upgraded us for free on a low booking day. I think we were the only people there our first night. They also let us check in early when we arrived to town several hours ahead of time. Breakfast was great- Made to order and turn down service with chocolates was a nice touch. My only complaint is that there was no way to make some white noise. It snowed our first night there and we could hear the plowed going down the street all night long and on the 2nd night someone was in the room next door and their jacuzzi tub is apparently on our shared wall- pretty noisy to listen to them bath at 10pm. Other than that though the experience was great and really made for a nice anniversary trip.

Stayed for two nights in fantastic Falling Spruce room.....a must! Service was impeccable. Everyone there simply cared about making your stay great. Breakfast included was very, very good. Cooked to order not a buffet. Location was perfect, and inn was well kept and well furnished. Do not be in any way reluctant to stay here. We will certainly return. Thank you staff for making my birthday one to remember!

We chose The Reluctant Panther for a long-overdue romantic getaway. We had stayed there ten years ago when the inn was under different management and had a wonderful time. Since then, we discovered, the old inn, which was a quaint, intimate place, burned to the ground. The new facility is updated with the latest conveniences (Wi-fi, gas fireplace, whirlpool tub and flat-screen tv in room) and a much larger dining room. We were ambivalent about the changes; the updates probably draw a broader clientele, but the place has lost the homespun intimacy that drew us there in the first place.
We paid about $250 for a night's stay in a single room with king-sized bed; suites were considerably more expensive. The room was well-appointed but not very well laid out; the sitting area was separated from the sleeping area by a half wall containing the gas fireplace. The sitting area consisted of an upholstered chair and a straight-backed sofa that seemed designed more for decoration than comfort. The television was located, puzzlingly, on a nightstand facing the half-wall; you had to pull the night-stand away from the wall and rotate the television sideways to view it.
The hotel staff was unfailingly friendly and attentive. We had made dinner reservations in advance and at the appointed time were shown to a nice table near the fireplace. My wife ordered a glass of wine; I ordered a martini. When my wife's wine arrived we both rolled our eyes; it was a very light pour for a $12 glass of middling pinot grigio. No complaints with the martini. The sticker shock continued, though, with our appetizers. My wife had the Tuscan kale salad; it was quite good, but at $14 she expected more than what amounted to a few leaves of kale chopped and tossed in olive oil. My salmon, at $32, was beautifully presented and tasty but the portion disappointingly small; same with my wife's grilled sirloin at $40. Our server was friendly but not as professionaltive as we would expect for a restaurant in this price range. We waited for twenty minutes between appetizers and entrees and had to hail her over for drink refills; the restaurant was not busy, but seemed understaffed.
A full breakfast was included in the room price; that was excellent.
In all, we had a pleasant experience at The Reluctant Panther. As a couples getaway it fills the bill. If you're value-conscious, though, I'd look elsewhere, especially for dinner.

We spent Sunday night at the beautiful Reluctant Panther Inn. The hotel is beautiful in every sense of the word and the rooms are perfectly appointed. The reception desk was very helpful and arranged two massages in our room before our dinner. We travel frequently and found the services and food at the restaurant to be top notch. We ventured to the Equinox Hotel next door which was filled with families and in less beautiful condition. Since we had the night away from our children, we were so glad we choose the Reluctant Panther instead. It was the best escape from city living and will definitely return when we are back in the area. Highly recommend this hotel for some luxurious R&R without any pretentious attitude.

We recently stayed a night in the Fallen Spruce room and were absolutely floored at how luxurious it was...and it all seemed brand new. Apparently there was a fire at this property and so now everything is new...and world class. Huge room with fireplace, gorgeous four-poster bed, bold colors on comfy couch, chairs and bench, and big bathroom with granite, oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, jacuzzi tub, etc. The restaurant was closed on Monday for dinner but we loved our breakfast which came free with our package...we ordered right off the menu, sat in a lovely dining room with white table cloths and fine china. This property is just steps from the Equinox and we got a much better rate, but in fairness, I will say we were only looking for a room and breakfast...not looking for amenities, of which there are few. But if that's your plan too, maybe you're on a romantic getaway or a shopping trip (fantastic outlets here), there cannot be a better place. Our initial plan was to stay at a very old, historic inn, but we couldn't be happier that everything was so luxurious and new. Thank you for a great stay!

We stayed in one of the rooms in a side building. It had a strong potpourri smell and had stained carpeting, perhaps the sent was trying to cover something up. I should have tried to change rooms, but thought they were full. The breakfast was good, although the tea just grocery store quality. The staff was helpful, even printed out hiking maps.

Room Tip: Try not to stay in annex.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We appreciate your kind comments about our high level of service and our complimentary breakfast. We are sorry that your room’s “potpourri” smell was disturbing to you, had you brought this to our attention we would have been happy to move you to a room of your liking. We discovered that a warm ember from your room’s fireplace had left several marks on the carpet – this can occur occasionally as a result of having fireplaces in all of our rooms and suites. We will be replacing the carpet this winter. Our staff takes great pride in providing excellent service and top quality accommodations and we hope to welcome you back to the Panther in the future.

It was our first stay at this lovely Inn and we loved it. We received a room upgrade at no extra cost. The staff were beyond professional, helpful and polite. The rooms were clean, well kept and the therapeutic tub was heavenly to say the least. The restaurant was excellent! Even the breakfast was very good served on villeroy and boch china which was a lovely touch. I highly recommend this place.
