Great service, great accommodations, great breakfast. Perfect place to take my wife for a quiet getaway for a summer weekend in Vermont.

Spent long weekend here and was very impressed. Great location near center of town. Very attractive structure with views of the mountain. Place was very well run and intimate. Owner spent a lot of time reserving dinner for us all 3 nights. Room a little small but very cozy. Was very sad to leave, will definitely return.

What a great B & B we were made to feel most welcome and given a full tour of the premises and a run down how everything worked. The bedrooms were great and each with different character. Recommendations were provided for dinner and booked for usand this proved to be excellent. Tea and coffee were provided for guests to make use of. The breakfast was the best we had in America, not for those who wish a speedy getaway, it was great to take our time and not have everything put onto the plate in one go, but to have 3 courses served with style and panache and for us take the time to enjoy it. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable time, I wish we could have spent longer with you.

R & D from CT:

We have visited The Governor's Inn on Main St. in Ludlow, VT approximately 5 times. Each time we have found the staff to be friendly and informative. Owners Cathy and Jim have made the inn cozy and welcoming. We have enjoyed staying in several of the rooms - all comfortable. In every room and in the hallways they have provided small toiletry items (in case you have forgotten something) beyond what might be found in a regular hotel.

Cathy is a wonderful chef - the breakfasts are delicious and if you choose to have Saturday evening dinner, you won't be disappointed!

The inn is close to restaurants, churches, the library, many shops, skiing, antiquing, and many other sightseeing venues as well as the town of Weston with a small theater/playhouse.

On this trip my husband and I signed up for a cooking seminar which took place on Saturday morning. We had hands-on experience making several great recipes as well as getting some wonderful culinary instruction from Chef/Owner Cathy. We sampled our work at lunchtime!

Our favorite thing about the inn is 4:00 tea. If you choose to take part, you get to meet other guests at the inn and enjoy conversation with Host/Owner Jim.

We enjoy visiting the inn and will continue to do so!

Looking for an escape destination to get away from it all? This is the place! When we walk into the Inn, “real life” is left at the door! The Governor’s Inn is trusted oasis with hosts who understand good old fashion quality service! We just returned from a long weekend stay at the Inn, our 32nd over the past 11 years, and it holds the same charm, elegance and great food and service as it did when we first stayed with Jim and Cathy as Innkeepers! The rooms and furnishings are clean and elegant. And Cathy and Jim do everything they can to make your stay an excellent experience. Cathy is a gourmet chef and ANYTHING she cooks is outstanding. Breakfast is a three course feast, and Cathy even holds cooking seminars at the Inn for 2 or 3 couples (See their other great packages as well). Speaking of packages there is so much to do during all four seasons at the Inn and Cathy and Jim are experts at helping you plan your stay so you’ll get the most from your experience. A gas fireplace or gas stove with a view of the romantic flames greets you in fall and winter and each room has a TV and air conditioning. Tea time at 4pm is a treat not to miss. Served with light pastry and sandwiches (Beer and wine is also available, as I like my tea in a green bottle). Tea time also gives you an opportunity to meet some of the other guests in a friendly and inviting environment. At tea in the parlor, we’ve met so many wonderful people from all over the country and the world. If all you are looking for is a $49/night room to flop for the night… don’t go here. This Inn is for people who know how to enjoy life and appreciate the refined and relaxed atmosphere of a true B&B with hosts that care about their guests.

We decided to take a trip to Vermont to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We stayed in several really nice B&B's, but we especially loved our two nights at The Governor's Inn. From the minute we walked in the front door we could tell we were going to love it. The inn was beautiful and was right on the Main Street of the village, which made it easy to walk to the shops. The innkeepers made us feel so welcome and special, like we were guests in their home. They were always happy to help us with directions, suggestions for restaurants and things to do in the area, and anything we needed. The afternoon tea (cookies, brownies, cakes and tea) were outstanding, and Cathy's white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies were the best we have ever tasted. In fact, all of the food was fantastic. We really liked that we had a choice of items for breakfast, and everything was delicious. Cathy made a picnic lunch for us to take on the day we left. If you have the chance to do the picnic, be sure you ask her to make her chicken salad for you - it was incredible! We stayed in Priscilla's Room, which was elegant and very comfortable. The place is absolutely immaculate. We highly recommend this inn, and we will definitely go back.

  • Liked — Friendly innkeepers, cleanliness of inn, quality of food.
  • Disliked — Nothing - we liked everything.

We were looking for an inn to stay next year because we like the area so much and read the reviews of the inn on this site. We were in Ludlow and decided to stop by the inn to check it out but were surprised to be greeted by an unfriendly, unhelpful innkeeper. When we asked about the inn's rates, he would not share any information but instead told us to look it up on the Web site. When asked about the rooms, he told us to look at the pictures on the internet.

We won't be staying here and will find an inn where we will be welcomed.

The above reviewer stopped by the inn just after checkout, at a time when all rooms were either already occupied or were being cleaned. The dining rooms and common areas were also being cleaned. We apologized that we were not able to show these people the rooms, but we do not show occupied rooms to anyone!! We offered this reviewer a brochure and rate card, and explained that this was the peak season so the highest rates shown on the card applied. Since we could not show the rooms because they were occupied or being cleaned, we suggested that the reviewer look at our website to see the pictures, and also that they take our brochure and rate card with them. They refused to take the brochure and rate card, and left. We believe that the comments about the innkeeper being unfriendly are unfair. We were simply trying to explain that we were unable to show any rooms at that time., and we were trying to give them the best information that we could. We love to show the inn whenever possible.
