“Excellent value for a great skip trip on a tight budget and a happy time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2011

I first stayed at Turn of River Lodge back in March of 2010 and have since returned twice with friends met back the first time round. After beautiful days out skiing it's really nice to relax on couches in the big lounge with the TV and large fireplace, also meeting a lot of friendly folks over a beer or over cards in the evening or in the following morning over breakfast. I'm disappointed to come across some harsh reviews from people who don't like a social atmosphere or who should have booked at a five star luxury hotel, especially for what you pay I've always found TORL to be kept clean and nice, three times round I've slept there just fine. A lot of repeat visitors love it here and I'll miss it until next winter!

Most people who stay here are young males thrown in with some male die hard skiers and adventure junkies. Only a few young females seem to stay here that are on a tight budget. The guests seem nice but they cater to guys as there are no hair dryers or shampoo in rooms. Breakfast is Ok - nothing great. However it is kept clean. The walls are very thin as I could hear the man in the next room snore all night and anyone above me taking a shower (at 2:30 AM!)

This lodge was perfect for us attending a festival and skiing at Killington. We didn't need to spend a lot of time in a hotel room, we were exploring most of the time...but it was a clean bed and shower for a great price. The people working here know the area and can provide great insight into things to do and directions. We also enjoyed socializing with the other people staying, very nice clientele. Free breakfast and internet was a nice bonus.

I should preface this review by saying that my wife and I have stayed in our share of hostels and don't mind "roughing it", in general. However, we were not at all impressed with Turn of River lodge.

In retrospect, our mistake was booking a private room here through a Killington package deal, and for $90 per night, we expected something approximating a decent hotel. That's not what this is; instead, the Turn of River Lodge is sort of a glorified climber lodge with uncomfortable beds, paper-thin walls, and drunk ski bums (and bummettes) stumbling in and out at 3am in the morning. On the positive side, the staff was friendly (if a little brusque), the parking was plentiful, and the place seemed reasonably well-maintained.

If you prefer to spend money on lift tickets and just need a bed to pass out on for the night, than this may fit the bill. Otherwise, there are undoubtedly much better hotel-like options for your dollar.

I have made my Vermont home away from home at Turn of River each year for the past 8 years....wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.... a cozy neat environment where you feel at home from the get-go. AND the most reasonable lodging anywhere near Killington. It is NOT luxury....but it is authentic mountain lodge style with a big stone fireplace, and nice continental breakfast each morning. I usually stay for 5 days. Don't forget to ask for a discount on lift tickets.

There are limited restaruant choices near the lodge, but its a short drive to the access road or a bit longer to drive into Rutland for evening meals.

the place is a dump. Shared bathrooms. The location sucks since its not near the access road.- its pretty much no where. You can do better for the price and the canx policy is ridiculous

Our family group had a great ski vacation thanks to the Turn of River Lodge. The rooms can be small but the downstairs lounge is very welcoming and comfortable with large fireplace, TV and free Wifi throughout. Some rooms have private bath, some shared. There are even dorm style bunk rooms for $20 a night. The complimentary breakfast was simple yet varied enough for everyone's taste. There is one very long table plus a few small ones. The 5 minute drive to Killington Gondola is of course the greatest asset.
