I booked this lodge for a last minute 'leaf peeping' trip. The pros: The grounds are beautiful. The animals are very friendly (they know the humans give them food!). And the lodge does feel quite remote even though it's very close to the Killington ski area. It is definetely a family oriented lodge. There was a game room with 2 video games, a pool table, ping pong table, and fooseball table. You can access the lake and hiking trails right on the grounds. The staff was terrific and gave suggestions on restaurants in the area and called for reservations for us. They also offered us breakfast to go since we were leaving very early. I would definetely bring my children back someday.
The Cons: Since we're newlyweds I thought that a jacuzzi and fireplace would be a nice romantic touch. Do not book the fireplace/jacuzzi suite if that is your intention! I'm pretty sure the jacuzzi is the first ever invented. It barely fits two adults. My husband could not stretch his legs out and have his shoulders in the tub at the same time. I didn't actually verify, but I believe that lodge is on well/lake water. The water had quite an earthy smell. I never did taste it. We could never figure out how to work the retro fit propane fireplace. The room is clearly designed for families with two couches with pullout twin beds. Which is nice except for the fact that sitting on the couches is very uncomfortable because they are so short. We couldn't sit comfortably together on the couch so we finally used our laptop to watch a DVD in bed. The lodge is old and the floors squeek. I actually woke up in the middle of the night because the people in the room above us were walking around. If you are a light sleeper you need to bring earplugs! The lodge is very much a Vermont lodge. Everything is made of wood or wood paneled and all of the rooms are decorated with multiple floral designs. If this if what you love, you will love the lodge! It just wasn't really what I was looking for right now.
