“Great Mountain, Difficult Traverse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

On your first trip to Killington, you should expect to waste some time traversing. I would absolutely recommed Killington for its size and terrain, but I think the layout is confusing. I spent a lot of unnecessary leg strength and polling time getting navigating to "Most Difficult" runs and glades that weren't open. The grooming report did not seem to jibe with on-mountain conditions.

But that sounds more negative than it should. I had a great trip with all conditions, and began each day within the first 10 chairs. Midweek is the ONLY way to ski IMHO, which trip after trip bolsters.

Day 1: Cold, then warming nicely with 2 in. snow during the day, and another 3 in. overnight. No lift lines anywhere. Nice bumps, long uncrowded runs.

Above the foggy valley, Day 2 was bluebird powder day not typical in the East. Looking back down the gondola, other peaks looked looked like Carribean islands, green and sloping out of blue white sea mist. Only disappointments were closed runs I would have expected open in late Jan.

Day 3: A big thaw and overnight rain with more in the forecast and 20+ MPH winds had me contemplating skiing my 3 of 4 day licket tomorrow. I decided to go for it and am so glad I did. Fantastic spring conditions and deep granular snow carved like butter. The fog had inverted, with visibility near the top dropping to two chairs -- the one in front of you and the vague outline of the chair in front of it. Classic mountain streams emerged, tumbling down granite rocks. Very beautiful.

Hard to say whether it was rain or heavy fog, but visibility got very bad by day's end. I'm guessing that gusts at the peak of K1 35 MPH or more. Makes you really appreciate the gondola.

Anyway, after three great days skiing, in rapidly deteriorating conditions, navigating to Ramshed was arduous. A couple wrong turns had me overshoot in both directions. Still, with great effort comes great reward. I shall never forget that "High Road" is the only way back to Ramshed.

“We skied the beast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Killington is pretty special, the staff are super helpful, the trails are well groomed. We ate lunch in the Snowshed lodge and the clam chowder was excellent.

“JUST WAIT AND CONDITIONS CHANGE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Skiing at the Beast...... always an adventure. This week brought wind, rain, show flurries, cloudy skies and temperature ups and downs. The only thing NOT experienced was SUN.. Slopes were pretty good considering the need for new snow... Just remember, a so-so day out skiing beats almost everything else.. Really glad I got up to the mountain this season.....It was a much enjoyed break from the devastation and rebuilding at the Jersey Shore... You have done so much since Irene..I only hope we will be able to say the same .....

With its huge number of trails, varied terrain, and extensive snowmaking, Killington is the go-to place to ski in the East. Check out its website for deals and directions.

“Killington a must for NE skiing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Resort staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms were great, food was good, and skiing was phenomenal. Ski school was fantastic not crowded even for a weekend. The instructors were great, and you can tell they enjoy what they do. Trails were groomed nicely and there is a lot of mountains to ski with great lifts, no excessively long lines. My family was very impressed and we will certainly add this to the top of the list for NE ski resorts.
