The Sinclair Inn was a fabulous B&B. From the moment my husband and I arrived, we were made to feel right at home - almost a part of the owners' family.

The inn itself was absolutely beautiful. The room furnishings were immaculate, comfortable, historic, and extremely functional. We couldn't get over how the owners seemed to have thought of everything. (The only thing that would've been nicer would be to have TV's in each of the rooms). It was also quite nice that each room has its own private bathroom.

Sleeping was very comfortable, and the rooms seemed well-insulated from both noise and environment. Breakfast was unbelievably tasty. The food was creative not only in presentation, but also in unique flavor combinations.

The inn is located conviently close to Stowe, Waterbury (Ben & Jerry's factory!) and even Burlington. For dinner, we recommend 158 Main in Jeffersonville. It is about a 20 minute drive from the Inn, but well worth it. The atmosphere and menu is very "Vermont."

If you're traveling to Northern Vermont, we strongly recommend that you stay at the Sinclair Inn.

I just got back from a 5 day vacation in Vermont. For two nights, my boyfriend and I stayed in the Sinclair Inn. Though a bit off the beaten path (about 30 minute drive from downtown Burlington), the Sinclair Inn was a wonderful place to stay. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful, giving good tips on places to eat in Stowe and near the Inn. The owners also provided copies of maps to destinations and helpful tips about visiting local sites. The breakfast each day was wonderful: bananas foster and french toast the first day and homemade granola with yogurt and egg omelet casserole the second day. The owners used fresh vegetables and fruits from neighbors' gardens in each meal.
While at the Inn, we stayed in room 3, a lovely room facing the road. There was road noise, as mentioned in a previous review, but it was not bothersome to us. After two busy days in Vermont, we slept soundly in the comfortable bed. The owners provided chocolates on the bed each evening and straightened the room and bathroom each day as well. We had a truly wonderful experience at this Inn!

We stayed here for a night over memorial day weekend...found the room okay. not great if you don't like decoration in old antiques. bed wasn't that comfortable and could hear the noise from the busy road right outside our window. room we stayed in could have been improved with some updated furnishings and a new mattress. I would definitely ask for a room in the back of the house if available.

the inn is located about 20 min from Burlington. We wanted to stay closer but couldn't find a place. it was hard to find anything that would accept a one night reservation.

upside is that Sally was really kind, made an amazing breakfast and was gracious in all ways.

Management response from nimmie, Owner

We bought the Sinclair Inn in July of 2007 and have totally redecorated the entire inn. We have all new furniture in the inn living room and parlor and the bedrooms have new curtains, mattresses ,rugs, linens and furniture. In the winter, each bed has a down duvet and matching pillow shams. In the late spring of 2008, we will be painting the outside of the inn and carriage house. The whole look of the inn is quietly elegant and sunny.

The three course breakfasts feature Vermont farm products such as Green Mountain Coffee, MacKenzie sausage, and Cabot cheese. Afternoon tea always features fresh, homemade cookies, cakes, or puddings.

In the spring, our website will feature photographs which show the inn more accurately.

I stayed here with the person I am dating - we both have hectic work schedules and wanted to sneak away for a few days. We stayed for three nights, including New Year's Eve, and it was amazing. The hostess (Sally) was sweet and generous and offered us baked goods, coffee and tea upon our arrival. The breakfasts each morning were unique and delicious and filling - it felt like we were getting a three course meal each time! Sally made sure to ask about any allergies or food preferences when we arrived, but I am not a picky eater and could not get enough of the food she had prepared. Sally was also gracious enough to offer a pre-made continental breakfast if we didn't think we could get up by 8:30 when she started to serve, though the thought of missing out on one of her hot breakfasts was too much to bear for us. She also offered to delay breakfast on New Year's Day, which was very nice (though no one in the house took her up on it since we all needed to drive home that day). We stayed in room 1, which had a large, comfortable bed and we both slept wonderfully each night. The room itself was large and beautiful, and had all the same toiletries/amenities that a hotel room offers, aside from a television (though there was a TV in the main room if we wanted it). Sally also offered to help us find the best restaurants or anything else we needed during our stay there and gave us some great tips. Also, the entire house is gorgeous, inside and out. Jericho is a quiet little town but easy to find, so it is relaxing to be there. It is just a hop, skip and a jump from Essex Junction, which has some fabulous restaurants, and it is just 20 minutes from Burlington so the location is great. The only bad part of the entire vacation was the snow storm that came our second day, and it took about a day for the driveway to be plowed and the front walk to be shoveled, but Sally's husband was in bed recovering from something the entire time we were there so I'm sure that contributed to the delay. All in all, it was a great vacation and I would highly recommend it to anyone else who might be traveling up there!

  • Liked — Sally was a gracious hostess and an amazing cook.
  • Disliked — It was a bit farther from Burlington than we thought, but we got over that quickly.

I spent 2 nights at the Sinclair Inn at the end of June. I had a large room with private bath; very comfortable. My only complaint about the room was that I had to run the air conditioner much of the time, since the Inn is on a busy street and noisy if I opened the windows. The garden and view from the back of the house is lovely.

Sally and Bruce are very hospitable hosts. I only wish I had had more free time to spend at the house as I would have liked to chat more with them about their world travels. They had very good recommendations about local restaurants and activities.

Breakfasts are large and delicious. Tasty baked goods are out in the living room later in the day and drinks including tea, coffee and wine are complementary.
