“Clean and Quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

We joined another family who had stayed here years before. The VT state keeps the campground very neat and clean with plenty of bathrooms and spacious level, dry sites. The price is also very reasonable. Our son enjoyed the freedom of riding his bike in the camp ground with out the worry of getting lost, and also taking the well marked trails to the Salmon Hole to swim and kayak. I recommend the walk to the waterfall. Watch out for the cheeky red squirrels and the chipmunks as they have a habit of stealing the marshmallows that you forgetfully leave out after making s'mores!

We've been starting off our Memorial Day Weekends by always camping in a different State Park in VT. Well that ends at Jamaica. No need to go elsewhere. It's really clean, quaint, sites with lean to's and tents/pop ups etc. Bathrooms clean and the shower stall had a ton of hooks. bring a shower caddy as there was only a soap holder and a handicap rail, so if you have travel items, bring a caddy to hang over the shower. Quarters too.

We had a prime site #30, awesome, right on the 3 mile old rail trail, that leads to a hike up to Hampton Falls. Bring your bikes, can bike to the head of the falls path, which is 2 miles up, then a 1 mile up hill (moderate hike) to beautiful falls. Pack a lunch and spend some time there.

If you continue past the Hampton Falls trail, by 1/4 mile, go over the bridge and hike to the top of the Dam, man made, pretty cool and can get a map from the park rangers at the entrance to the campground.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. 1 mile from the campground go right out of the main road id D&K Country store (It's a Shur Fine), great place for getting sandwiches, they had everything, huge wine section, just huge!!! We bought two inner tubes $16 each) , the water was so warm, we walked up about 1 mile and the kids tubed down to the campground beach. Plenty of places to fish off the West River and tube or a spot to hang on the rocks and catch some rays, or have a picnic lunch and read, just beautiful. Can only imagine what the foliage season is like up there. There is also the Overlook Trail which if 1/2 mile up hill, but the view is supposed to be really nice. Bring bug spray, we were told it was buggy this weekend.

Sites are big and open, lots of room, but tons of tree's so your not sitting on top of your neighbors. The lean to section down by the entrance is rather nice and big, saw pop up's there as well as tents.

There is a day use area, playground, beach, picnic table and grills, restrooms but no showers there, just bathrooms. Showers are at the site.

Quaint town of Jamaica, just under 1000 people there. You go over a small suspension bridge before turning left into the campground. Staff was great!

Quiet time ia 10pm-7am, unwritten rule, most followed it, never heard anyone loud and obnoxious. Families, couples, dogs allowed, etc. Great campgroung and we'll be going back.

Ice $2, $4 for wood, or $16 for a cart full. Go with the cart, we ended up over 3 nights with 10 bundles, should have just done the cart. Dry too, so it burns clean and doesn't snap!

Hope this helps.

We love this campground. it attracts very nice families. We have met new friends while camping here. The river is clean, the hiking is great, and the place is very well maintained. We have been camping here for years and the bathrooms and sites are always clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly, personable, and available to help, if needed. It is a small enough campground that it doesn't feel too busy, even on holiday weekends. It is our favorite place to camp.

Immaculate, rustic, and run by efficient and friendly people, Jamaica State Park is my new favorite place to camp. So much so, I looked online this morning, the day after coming home, to find a place to write a review. The sites are spread out and surrounded by trees. It's on a river that you can fish and swim in. They have very sweet activities, like "Junior Ranger" and tie-dying that the kids loved. The site we stayed at had a very steep hill that the kids loved running up and down and was ideal for finding sticks. Some (quite a few) sites actually have a river view. There are several hiking trails near by that vary in difficulty but are part of the attraction for many of the campers. (Lazy us -- we only did a short one along the river.) There were a lot of kids around us, so it did get kind of loud, but we found out that there was a ten-family reunion all around us, so that was just luck. Strangely, even the kids were exceptionally nice. The Ranger strictly enforces the quite rule so, by 10pm, it was silent except for the owls and coyotes. Believe it or not, it wasn't even very buggy! The only thing that would have made it better is if they sent someone home with me to unpack the car and do my piles of laundry! I highly recommend camping here!
