We just returned from a week at the Tyler Place Family Resort and
absolutely loved it. The kids, aged 5 and 9, wanted to stay another
week. You really should read the review in the NY Times as it really
explains this resort in detail. At no time did I feel we were dumping
our children off. They each had an age appropriate group which they
could not wait to go to each morning and evening. Not once did they
complain about going. In the aftenoons we had 4 hours of quality family
time which consisited of doing one or more of the following: swimming,
tubing,banana boating, visiting a local farm, paddle boats, pontoon
boat ride, going on a family hike where we stopped to fish, we also
rode bikes together or simply went for a walk. In the evening we had
time together to play cards, light a fire in the fireplac and just be
together, NO TV. I don't know how often you can find a place to do
these types of fun things with your children. No stress. You can choose
to eat breakfast as a family, but my children really wanted to eat with
the friends they had made. We ate all our meals (which were all great)
with people we had made at Tyler Place and enjoyed the adult
conversation. Durning the time the children are in group, my husband
and I were able to spend time together on a canoe trip, hiking trip, a
game of volleyball with other people we had met and the list goes on.
The most important aspect of Tyler Place is the friendliness of
everyone that works there which extends to all the guests. Everyone you
meet is genuinely friendly. The counselors really seemed to enjoy the
children and at the end of the week the kids were sad to leave. Lastly,
we stayed in a small cottage that had 2 good sized bedrooms, 2 working
fireplaces, a small kitchen (which we did not use)and a small screened
in porch, all of which was very clean and in great working order,
including the bathroom/shower.
I really hate to write such a positive review as it took us a couple years to finally get a spot here, and the waiting list goes on.
