great little place. fine food and great ambiance. very real inside, they kept the huge 3 sided fireplace, floors, walls etc from 1800's 'toll house'.
menu changes to reflect local harvest, but 'chicken tom' is a staple-try it! tom will probably serve to you himself. wife chef lisa aways has a local story. this is a 'family affair'
bonus--tom makes the best martinis and manhattans north of nyc.

“Get a Taste of Authentic Vermont Cooking at a Local Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2009

In 1994, The White Dog Tavern was recommended to us by a few locals from the Danby, VT area. We were immediately smitten with the rustic yet cozy restaurant that also houses a convivial little bar, and have made many visits back over the last 15 or so years.

Located inside a snug farm house that was built in 1812, Tom and Lisa Musso have created a welcoming restaurant that features delicious food, friendly conversation, and terrific service. In the summer months there is an outdoor seating area and in the fall and winter, a fire is usually blazing.

Though the menu isn't that extensive (hence the 4 out of 5 stars for food), Lisa will try to accommodate special dietary needs, per a note on the menu. My husband has been a devoted Chicken Tom fan for many years. On our last visit in July 2009, the baby carrots that accompanied my prime rib were straight from The White Dog garden! Produce doesn't get much more local than that!

If you're visiting Vermont and are looking for an authentic and delicious Vermont meal with the locals, give The White Dog Tavern a whirl!
