“Elegant yet cozy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2011

Our daughter and husband stayed here their wedding night and my husband and I stayed here in the winter. The host, Nancy, is gracious and accommodating and the Inn is immaculately clean and beautifully appointed. We were welcomed and served tea/coffee and cookies when we arrived in the afternoon. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was served in the dining room with a fire in the fireplace and snow lightly falling outside the french doors. Truly idyllic setting and the price is very affordable for such a beautiful b&b.

My wife and I stayed at the Applewood on a weekend visit to Castleton to watch my daughters soccer game. Nancy made us feel very welcome and was so hospitable when we asked if our daughter could join us for breakfast. The bed was very comfortable and we had an excellent nights rest after celebrating the teams victory into the wee hours of the morning.

We loved the elegantly appointed Delia's room, and clean well-furnished amenities. We were welcomed "home" each evening with much appreciated hot tea and sweets in the guest lounge, and the gentle loving company of official host dog, Samson. I especially enjoyed the delicious breakfasts (menu announced on chalkboard in the hall), and lively conversations with hostess Nancy. Had we more time and the weather been warmer during our Fall visit, I would have loved to relax on the porch or stroll the beautifully kept grounds. My husband and I would indeed return to the Applewood Manor in the future!

We stopped at Applewood after an exhausting day on the road, arriving around 5PM. Nancy, our host met us, got us settled into our beautiful room and sent us downtown for dinner. Our room was incredible; but the real treat was the bathroom! After dinner, I really appreciated the spacious shower and first-class amenities. The next day we were up early for another extensive driving day, but not before a truly great, gourmet breakfast. I wish now we would have rearranged our schedule and stayed a few days.

Ralph and Nancy are gracious hosts that will make you feel like royalty. Cleaner or more luxuriously comfortable lodging simply does not exist. Twice, upon arriving, we went to lie down for a 'moment' on the most cozy bed and linens only to awaken hours later astonished at our rest and peaceful slumber. The breakfasts are delicious and artfully presented on a beautifully set dining table in a grand dining room. You feel welcome and like family the moment you arrive.

Room Tip: Hannah's & Noah's Rooms are favorites, but you cannot go wrong with any of the delightfu...

We stayed here 3 nights in late September. Nancy is a wonderful, friendly hostess, and her husband is a great cook. We stayed in Sarah's Room on the first floor and it was lovely. The bed was comfortable and the room was quite large. There are several rooms in this historic home available for guests, including a porch, lounge, and library. All in all a wonderful stay.

My wife and I planned our US holiday to include Washington and New York as well as Vermont. We looked for a location in Vermont which would be convenient for the train from New York and Applewood Manor looked to be an appropriate choice.
We were absolutely delighted with our selection. The Amtrak journey from New York to Castleton was fine and Nancy met us at the station. Applewood Manor is a lovely historic home, beautifully and very comfortably furnished. Our room and facilities could not have been better.
Nancy and Ralph are excellent hosts. They took us to Rutland to collect a hire car for our stay in Vermont and gave us lots of advice on interesting places to visit. Castleton is in an excellent location for visiting numerous attractions.
Previous visitors have commented on the breakfasts and they are absolutely right. Everything was served to perfection.
In summary, this is an excellent bed and breakfast and deserves 5 stars in every respect.
