“Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

We stayed one night with another couple here. Rooms were clean, lobby welcoming and staff professional. Great location in walking distance to the downtown shopping area. Too bad we didn't get a chance to stay longer. Will be back.

Accommodations in Burlington are not cheap. What we got for the money we spent here--which I'd say was about average among hotels and B&Bs for a New Year's Eve weekend--was pretty well worth it. When I'd made the reservations a few months back, I'd asked for a lake view, on an upper floor... and that's exactly what we got. They put us on the top (9th) floor. That gave us a nice surprise: from our room, we had an unbeatable view of the fireworks at midnight over the lake. The room, by the way, was spotless and comfortable. The indoor pool, the hot tub, and exercise room were also very well maintained and clean. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I mean ALL of them: the front desk clerks, the restaurant waitstaff, housekeeping... The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars (and it was a tough call whether to give it 4 or 5 starts) was for the overall price in the end. Simply having breakfast here, which in many chain hotels is included, cost us $28 before tip. Add to that a charge for parking, plus all the taxes... and what originally looked like an inexpensive deal, wasn't so inexpensive in the end. But I'm glad we stayed here.

My family of 5 stayed 3 nights at this property - in 2 rooms - and were very satisfied. We had King rooms which were standard but nice, with very modern bathrooms and a partial lake view. The pool and fitness area were unusually spacious and nice for a Courtyard, and all staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful. The location is as good as advertised, and the parking is reasonsably simple and inexpensive given the downtown area. They had fresh coffee and cookies available almost all the time - other properties seem to run out - as well as a good complimentary newspaper selection, and the lobby was very nice and full of people much of the time. The front desk staff was generous with change and laundry supplies. All in all no complaints at all! I'm sure you can find local inns with more Vermont character, but this is a very safe and good choice for any traveler.

We have just finished four nights at this hotel. Our room was very clean and well-appointed. The hotel employees, especially at the front desk, were very friendly and helpful. One nice attribute of this hotel is the close proximity (i.e., within easy walking distance) to the Burlington, pedestrian-only, shopping and dining district. There is an above average fitness room. It is more expensive than the next door Hilton, which we have stayed at before, probably because it is a newer facility.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a view of Lake Champlain!

Great view of Lake Champlain - if you get a lake-view room. I reserved one (and got it), but on check-in was told I was getting an upgrade (I am Marriott Platinum Elite), but when we arrived in our room, we found it to be a nice room, but nothing that wasn't already promised. Weird.

Good location for walking into town. Straight up Cherry Street is Penny Cluse Cafe - where we had breakfast both days (highly recommended). I did appreciate the coffee and papers being available when you just get off the elevator. We used the whirlpool both nights. Since it is on the way from the parking garage to the elevators, you get a lot of staring, but gotta get my whirlpool on after a day of walking up and down Burlington's hilly streets (we went up to UVM to check out the art museum, but it was closed).

Parking was very convenient and free during this pre-Christmas weekend which was very nice.

Located across from Battery Park in downtown Burltingon, this hotel is a good location if you have business on the waterfront or on Church St. It's clean, has nice rooms, and some very nice views from the upper floors.

What's wrong with the Courtyard is that it feels like the place should have every thing printed n black and white. It suffers from its sheer generic nature, which is too bad. The Burlington downton is vibrant and eclectic. Stores range from the fashion chain to the wonderfully odd. In the warmer months, it's a magnet for all age range and agendas. You'll find families, hippies, theatre goers, and birkenstock buddies all mixing amongst the brick walkways, shops, and an amazing variety of eateries.

However, it's this very attractiveness that hurts the Courtyard. Sandwiched between Church Street and Battery Park (with its spectacular views of Lake Champlain), a cookie cutter Marriott just seems like someone wasn't trying. I wish there was something that was more inn-like in it's presence to take advantage of its location.

I am a Marriott Platiunum and have tried several locations to compare to. This Marriott is right across the street from the lake (gorgeous views from rooms on that side), and within easy walking distance of Burlington's many restaurants and bars. Front desk staff friendly at check-in. The girls in the dining room at breakfast were incredibly welcoming and friendly, and made us feel at home. Rooms neat and clean, and must have been recently refurbished. There was a fresh paint smell, but not overwhelming. If any minor negative (and it is very minor), it's that the desk staff can get overworked at checkout, and there's no back-up. I've seen the same thing at other propertise. The young man behind the desk was friendly and polite, but was busy reconciling a bill for someone else, with two people waiting. A simple "Hi. I'll be with you as soon as I finish here." would have been helpful. I think he just didn't see us, and he apologized afterwards.

Room Tip: Ask for lakeside if available, if you will be spending any time in your room.
