The day before we decided to drive up to Lincoln, Vermont for a getaway from Boston, I called Issy to see if she had room available for an overnight stay. Her house had just emptied out, she said, and she had all the rooms to clean but if we didn't mind arriving on the late side she would be happy to have us.
My boyfriend and I are campers and were not looking for frills, but with Vermont experiencing one of her rainiest springs, we thought a roof was a good idea. We didn't look at the 2 upstairs bedrooms but opted for the cabin out back, which involves a trek to the main house for the bathroom facilities.
After the introductions we were left to ourselves. The room held a comfortable double bed, a small refrigerator, coffee pot, maybe a microwave, bottled water and an assortment of dishes. That was a boon for me because I'm a vegan and travel with tofu, earth balance and soy milk. Though the rain kept us in the cabin reading, and not hiking Abraham, the fans kept us comfortable and we read through the morning.
In Bristol, I was happy to find Wokky's Chinese restaurant. The owner graciously cooked up tofu, vegetables and rice the way I like it. He's a funny guy and we had some laughs.
Issy cooked up eggs and sausage for my boyfriend and I had toast and granola and juice. She drove off and did errands and asked us to lock up when we left.
Comfortable camping with a roof, just what we were looking for!
