The "Elm Street Cafe" at 134 Elliot Street is actually called the Elliot Street Cafe. It is located at the corner of Elliot and Elm, adjacent from T.J. Buckley's- important to know because the outside of the building hasn't changed much since the building housed a nondescript corner market and deli three years ago. The lack of signage makes it easy to walk right by this place but I assure you it is worth a visit. The food is very affordable and absolutely delicious, with brunch specials on the weekends and breakfast served all day alongside tacos and burritos unlike any you'll find in Brattleboro or the rest of southern Vermont. The atmosphere is informal- expect people playing chess, reading the paper and playing ping pong rather than tablecloths and table service. Also, as of now they are still cash or check only. I personally recommend the savory sopes (cornmeal griddlecakes piled with cheese, seasoned black beans and other mexican goodies) but apparently the huevos rancheros are a perennial favorite.
