Well, after reading the last review we decided to head into Brattleboro for the evening. We came down from Burlington, Vermont on our way back to RI.

The front desk staff was very polite and accomodating at this funky/retro hotel. We were offered a large room which was clean and neat. We were pleased to see a refrigerator in the room. Since we literally walked in off the street the full bed wasn't quite large enough for us and consequently was uncomfortable. Too soft a mattress for us. We toughed it out though.

We ventured off to see the bridge in town and decided to get a drink at the bar upstairs that overlooks the Conneticut River. Later we ate dinner in town and then were thrilled to have gone to the Latchis Theater which has been restored to it's glory. Even if you don't see a movie, you must see the inside of this theater. There are plans to restore the marque outside the theater as well. If that isn't your cup of tea then consider having a beer at the bar/microbrewery contained within the same building on the corner street. It looks like a great place.

The town itself was clean but the buildings due to there age look little likethey could use a powerwash. However, we found the entire town it to be very interesting, artsy and laid back.

There were multiple bookstores, which we loved to romp around in. The Food-Coop offers some spendid dishes that you can either eat in there cafe area or take it to go.

A simple breakfast was offered where you can have a small yogurt, juice, coffee, tea or toast/muffin.

We would stay here again but in a room with a queen sized bed.

“A place with great character”

This was a really interesting place to spend a night. The hotel is quirky and full of character, complete with an old-fashioned elevator. Their continental breakfast was actually quite good with yogurt, juices, and an outstanding danish. We had a wonderful evening at the bar/microbrewery downstairs. It had a great atmosphere.

The room itself wasn't oustanding. It was definitely pricey. The furniture looked a little worn out. We had a little trouble with the shower head and an extremely steamy bathroom. The walls were honestly dripping with water after a nice hot shower. But the room was large, it had a fridge (which, for us road warriors was quite nice) and the air conditioning kept us nice and cool. The view out our window was pretty great too.

Overall, for the location and the character, I would definitely stay here again.

“This place is fantastic!!!”

While planning my mothers 60th High School Reunion being held in the area we came across this gem online. In fact the whole family came to the Latchis Hotel to be with our Mom and to enjoy Vermont. I could not see staying in one of the "Box" chain motels as they are always outside of town and away from anything interesting. The Latchis is a hotel with class and character, Its downtown and close to everything. You can walk to every kind of store and eatery you can think of. There is a movie theater, and a brew pub in the hotel. The brew pub had great food and some local folks make the place interesting. The theater was an Art Deco era theater and very cool. Our room was great, the view was great. The staff was great and always helpful. We liked the Latchis enough that we are planning a vacation again there next year.

“funky central accommodations”

It's a cool little funky place. Is it really fancy? No, but it is right in the center of a super great little town, check out the theater, worth a look. and walking distance to the great eaterys, wine lounge, 2 brew pubs tons of interesting independetly owned shops, what a great town!

The latchis is worth it, the room was clean, the shower was hot. A stay in Brattleboro deserves a staying at the Latchis or a independently owned B&B, but definitely not a chain hotel -I'll be back
