“Beauty, rest and a warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

This is a really special place in the woods outside of Brattleboro, by a river in an idyllic location, especially in the Fall. The house is beautiful and our bedroom lovely and comfortable, with its own well-appointed bathroom. The views from the bedrooms and the elegant dining room are stunning. Wandering around outside taking photos, or just soaking up the sounds of the river and woods lifts the spirit. Joan, our host, was welcoming and really makes you feel like you are an old friend, even on a short visit. Her history of how she remodelled this 1830s house (but still left it with its authentic look) was fascinating to hear. The breakfast was excellent and varied. We would have loved to stay longer - and would go back if we're ever over this way again!

Room Tip: There are only three rooms. All have good views. The Bridge Room (the one we were in) is the only on...

My husband and I spent a beautiful weekend at the Green River Bridge Inn. The area is absolutely gorgeous, it's breathtaking. Joan is an amazing woman, and a gracious host. The house is pristine, filled with antiques and so clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Sunshine Room, which has a private balcony overlooking the grounds, with the river running along side of the house. Breakfast was delicious; homemade muffins, bacon, quiche and baked apples, one morning. Everything is served on lovely china and Joan serves this morning feast to her guests, with a big smile, relaxed and in good spirits. We loved listening to her stories of a very interesting life, she is a delight! My favorite part of the weekend was opening the front door of the Inn and looking out at the church on the hill, the river and dam, and of course the red covered bridge. We were so grateful to have perfect weather and the foliage was amazing.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong.

This was a wonderful experience. Joan, the innkeeper made us feel right at home. The house is absolutely beautiful. The views and landscaping are breath taking. Breakfast was delicious. The inside of the house is warm and cozy. Each room had it's own bathroom. A great relaxing getaway. I can't wait to go back!

We have just spent a wonderful weekend at the Green River Bridge Inn in the rural setting in Southern Vermont. The Inn was warm and comfortable, the food was excellent and the Inn Keeper was very welcoming and hospitable. We are looking forward to another great escape weekend there in the near future.

We loved the warm hospitality, comfortable, cozy rooms, morning coffee on the back deck with a view, delicious and delightful breakfasts highlighted by Joan's specialty recipes and entertaining personality. The sound of the constant flowing river created a peaceful background from morning activity through restful nights. An extra perk for my stay was the benefit of her skin care expertise and spa downstairs. Thank you Joan!

We have gone here twice and have booked it for another weekend as well. Last time we made it a "working weekend" and we plugged our laptops into the outdoor outlets and worked all day on the back deck while watching the birds and the river. The beds are so comfortable (we have stayed in two of the rooms so far) I just wish we had tried the jaccuzi while we were there. I love the history of the house and teh surrundings. Right across from a New England church, next to an old Dam with fish runs and an old covered bridge that still smells like a steam train. Ideal New England location .

(And a comment for the "honeymoon disaster" review - I think the problem was with hotels.com. We had similar things happen with bookings from them. Now I call the place directly and book through them, and sometimes I can even get a discount that way!)

Room Tip: We couldn't hear any of the other guests from our room. If you want a private balcony overlookin...

We have been to a lot of B&Bs in this price range and this one is MUCH nicer! Joan does not skimp on anything. Contrary to what one reviewer said, the beds are VERY comfortable and reminded me of the beds from the Westin and Hilton hotels. I have a lot of trouble sleeping and was a little worried about my stay there since most B&Bs are homes and have thin walls. However, the place was booked this weekened and I did not hear ANYTHING (but the river) when I was in my room. I commented to Joan and she informed me that when she gutted and redid the entire place, she put soundproofing in the walls of all the bedrooms.

I really liked all the thoughtful details built into the house. There is an area upstairs in the hall that has a microwave, teas, water, a sink etc all tucked away in the cubord. Our breakfast was served on fancy china with chargers and fresh flowers were on the diningroom table and the side tables in each room. It's the small things that make this really stand out for me.

However, it's the LOCATION that just blows you away. Covered bridge, the dam, the river, the garden... amazing. The river is also stocked with fish and since it's private property, you can fish from the backyard in the river. Highly recommend this place and we plan to go back SOON!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great and are named after the location/view... but the Sunrise room has a balco...

Set in the picturesque village of Green River on a winding country road, the Green River Bridge House is nestled against the meandering Green River a few steps away from the historic Green River Covered Bridge. In earlier days the barn was the site of the local blacksmith shop. Lovingly and skillfully transformed, the Green River Bridge House is luxurious in comfort and sensuous in visual appeal. Every room is a warm embrace of soft colors, fine antiques and other unique furnishings.Though small enough to be homey, it is large enough and appropriately equipped to be the perfect setting for an intimate wedding or anniversary celebration. ... more   less
