“Love it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

With a lot of local movie theaters closing down, it's so much fun to attend movies at the Latchis, especially in their large theater with the painted murals. The general manager who sells the tickets is always pleasant and professional. He always seems to be there when we visit the theater about three times a year. They also have a new marquis out front. Keep up the good work!

“Exceptional local movie palace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Through the past 10 years, the Latchis has been operated and patiently restored by a local non-profit, now called Latchis Arts. Still first run movies, but also live events with talent from near and far. Also in the complex, a hotel, a restaurant and shops. The murals in the main theatre by artist Louis Jambor, of scenes from Greek mythology, are not to be missed - check out the zodiac tile work in the lobby!

“Latchis Theater, an historic gem in Brattleboro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

The Latchis Theater (part of the Hotel building--see my other review on the hotel), consisting of 4 viewing facilities, was opened in 1938. Its classical Greecian design will take you back to the grand years of motion picture theaters. A lifesize statue of the goddess Hebe welcomes you to the theater complex and then....Presto! You're sinking into historic seats in a traditional movie theater back in 1938, living the vision of the founder, Demetrious Latchis, surrounded by fine Greek architectural and symbolic statuary and details. Price of a movie is about 1/2 typical city prices. The hotel/theater complex is the focus of the nonprofit Latchis Arts organization, and the Preservation Trust of Vermont. It's a destination worth planning for a day trip or a weekend in southern Vermont. Oh--one important detail: the marquis was destroyed by a semi-tractor trailer in early August (and hit again by another truck the next day), and will be replaced sometime in early September 2013. Tip: Pick up a free reproduction brochure of the original Opening Event and postcards showing the original interior back in the day.

The seats need to be replaced but the popcorn and art deco decor is fantastic.

“Charming and Historic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

The Latchis Hotel *is* a charming and historic building, and it's currently under renovations. But my room, very near the intersection, was quite noisy with motorcycles and semis, even on such a small street. Also, the view would have been more appreciated had the windows been clean. But the the service was good, folks at the front desk were very kind, informed and helpful. Rooms are clean. The price makes makes me bump it to 4 stars because it's a very good value. Reasonably priced.
