“Good pub food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Been there a couple of times and had a good meal, food well prepared, nice server and reasonable price. Could use more variety on the menu and open 7 days. Parking is bad, but worth driving for a spot. A place you can go to for business, family and friends. Nice selection of beer an wine, and reasonable.

“Barre's Dig Rocks!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

After years of being rundown and neglected the city of Barre invested millions in repairing their Main Street. Along comes a handful of restauranteers and a Mayor with a vision and The Cornerstone Pub & Kitchen is born! Twenty four, count them, twenty four beer taps and Pub Fare that will tickle the discerning palate of the pickiest eaters! Their Mac & Cheese is the best I have EVER had and their presentation of their foods are unique, filling and affordable.
When visiting Vermont this should be on your list of must do!!!!

“Great food, atmosphere, and decor!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Okay, a new restaurant in Barre VT is something to be excited about - not kidding. Barre doesn't often have really great new places to rave about, so here are a few tidbits. From the outside you already have an inkling that the Cornerstone will be something special - the building is very attractive, they have a nice large sign outside, and the window boxes are filled with seasonal greens (in this case, evergreen boughs). Inside, there is a large waiting area (good, because they are popular), dim lighting (we went at night), and lots of seating plus a bar area. The food is really good - I had a delicious juicy burger that came with fries and my husband had poutine which he really liked. It's not too loud, so you can have a good conversation, and the seating is comfy - we sat in a window and enjoyed ourselves very much. I highly recommend this restaurant and other people I know say the same. Try it out and you'll not be disappointed!

“Pinch Yourself. This is Barre.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Cornerstone embodies all the qualities of the new cliche restaurant concept. Find a historic building (in their case an old bank) in a town (Barre) that hasn't seen an innovative restaurant in recent decades, maybe ever, and restore it tastefully and comfortably. Staff it with friendly people who have been given extensive training in what they are serving. Finally, serve popular fare (burgers, wood-fired flatbreads, pub grub) but exquisitely prepared with a heavy nod towards organic, local fare.

Kobe beef? Line-caught haddock. Hardly local, but we'll cut them some slack. Where else are you going to find celeriac cole salw?

Finally, match the food with a killer beer list that balances the locals from nearby Lawson's Liquids and Trapp Family Lodge with a few imported exotics from craft brewers around the country and world. The concept of Cornerstone is not new, but when the execution is as good as this, it doesn't matter. This is what makes the difference between "cliche" and "classic."
