“OK but have low expectations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2008

Compared to the poor reviews and complaints of cleanliness of the other motels in trip advisor, a few months ago Bryce Country Cabins sounded like the only safe place to stay and we wanted to stay away from the mayhem of Ruby's. It was clean, it was away from mayhem and yet close to Bryce NPS, however, I agree with previous reviewer, the road is noisy. It is the major road and the decor is pretty minimal. Compared to the price of other places, it seems high...I guess "clean" is worth a lot!

In general, Tropic is a problem. The grocery store was minimal and we purchased moldy bread there (and exchanged it the next day), but the restaurant there, Clark's was OK. The pizza place, the only other restaurant in town, had horrible service so we left after not being seated or acknowledged. Dinner became frozen dinners in the microwave! So maybe you do just have to put up with Ruby's for a night?!?!?

We decided to stay in Tropic, as it is just a 10 minute drive from Bryce National Park, and would keep us away from the hustle and bustle of Ruby's. The cabins are clean, have a nice atmosphere, and from the front offer a nice view looking across Highway 12 (and the local cemetery) up into Bryce. It was quiet until about 6 am, when traffice heading out of this small town started up- the speed limit increases right in front of the cabins. But, no one comes to Bryce to sleep in anyway. We went up to view the sunset over Bryce Canyon the evening we arrived, and did have the dinner buffet at Ruby's- you can buy beer and wine with your meal there, in comparison to the local restaurants in Tropic.

Yes, like a prior reviewer, Bryce Country Cabins also ripped us off. We should've checked here first. We reserved several days there, meeting some friends in 2 other units. We wanted to cut short our stay so I canceled the 4th and last day a couple of days before our arrival - the first day of our stay.

They interpreted that as within 3 days and did not return the deposit. Any other place would consider that 6 days in advance and refund. To top it off they charge another 25 for that. So we should not have told them and just left, saving the 25 at least. That's right, it cost more to cancel and return the room to them than to walk away!

Their staff is nasty rude and they retroactively claimed the rate is different although we only asked for AAA rate. This was in Oct. of 2007. We notified AAA and requested they investigate and remove their approval of this motel operator for their dishonest practices.

There are lots of other places in Tropic and also in Panguitch so this one should be avoided unless it is a one night drive by and vacant.

What a crook. My friends are amazed and we will all tell people to stay away from this one. And I travel through UT a lot so I know, I've never found a place this dishonest.

As others have stated, this is the best place to stay in/around Bryce. We booked 3 cabins for a total of 8 family members and everyone was thrilled w/the accomodations. We loved the little town (within walking distance), were visited by the cat, saw the new puppy, buffalo and assorted ranch dogs on property.

We enjoyed the horse back ride into Bryce Canyon one morning and the fabulous scenery throughout the area. You can't go wrong booking a cabin here and enjoying some quiet time.

The hotel is made up of a bunch of little cabins -- each little cabin has its own porch and outside seating area (some have swings, some picnic tables, etc.). The view of the mountains from the back of the cabins is wonderful.

Our little cabin had a rustic warmth and charm. Was very clean and comfortable. Grills are available for each cabin so it was just like your own little house back home.

Loved it -- will go stay there anytime we are in the area!

We decided to stay one night here with our two fifteen year old sons on our way to Capitol Reef. We were on a two week vacation, via , automobile and had already been to the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, and Zion. In addition, we had booked a guided ATV tour through Bryce Canyon resort. They take you through the Red Canyon. The trip was scenic, but a bit boring for accomplished riders. This trip is more suited for children.

I wanted the boys to experience a " log cabin" atmosphere. We had read there were some animals on the property which drew us in as well. We arrived early and tried to check in, but no one was around. Just finding the check-in is a little strange. It looks like a part of the owners house, which is confusing and led to some frustration. Finally a man who had ben working in the back came around and, friendly enough, took care of us.

I try to stay open minded., glance across the street to a large graveyard and grasp ahold of where I am. I take a deep breath of the fresh air and lead my family to our cabins, one for us, one for the boys. Heck, at $93.00 a night, we could afford two cabins! I open the door to find a charming , clean and cosy room with two double beds dressed in homemade quilts. I like the feeling that sweeps over me, so I go with it.

The sky begins to darken as the clouds collect to make the afternoon sky look even more dramatic. Everyone of us starved, we head to town, consisting of a small sum of buildings , to see what delicacies we can find. Attached to the market is a restaurant , "Clarks " I believe and a surprising little candy store. The smell of fudge permeates the air. It looks like something you'd see at Disneyland.

After lunch were get directions to a beautiful little lake, seventeen miles out. on a road opposite the Bryce Canyon resort. We fish there until it rains. Hungry again, we head to the pizza place. The owner of our cabins works there as well. We choose the patio for the surreal view ( looks like a painting) out over the open field toward the mountains.
The thunder and lightning drive us back to our cabins where a half starved, yet friendly , young cat follows us in. He ends up sleeping right next to me until he crys to go outside to do his business around 2:00 am. However, first thing in the morning , he is right there at the door to greet me.
I am very sad to leave him, but at least make a trip to the store before we depart and give him a healthy dose of some , turkey & fish cat food. I buy extra and leave it for the next visitor. We go over to pet the buffalo and the horses just before we depart . One of the ranch dogs has a new litter and is barking at us to protect them.
We wave good-bye to all who have perished in this remote ranch community over at the graveyard and head to our next destination.

i would highly recommend these cabins for a one or two night stay. There are no crowds . The market , a couple restaurants and gas are just a block away , where as Ruby's is over crowded
and not near as quaint. I felt this would be a love or hate experience . I must say , I left feeling a bit sad to leave this" heart and soul" retreat, yet undeniably content from the experience!

We stayed here while we were in the area seeing Bryce Canyon. These cabins were truly perfect for us and provided a wonderful escape. They are very well appointed with a tv, microwave, fridge, hair dryer, nice linens, coffee maker. They are clean and comfortable. There are 2 chairs on the front porch f each cabin and we enjoyed sitting out there enjoying the view. We also had a bbq (charcoal) so we went to the local grocery store and gathered what we needed to have a bbq one night. It was so much fun! They had an outdoor rustic table where we sat down, enjoyed the view and had a great dinner.

There is a pizza place down the street which was good. I know there were one or 2 other dining options as well.

We did stop in at Ruby's Inn. I would not want to stay there. So busy and overrun with tourists. Bryce Country Cabins really provided a getaway for us.

The farm is small but they have a buffalo, horses, llamas, chickens, a peacock that comes by every day, a donkey and there are a couple of friendly kitties that my kids loved.

The owners were so very nice. The man of the house came out as we were admiring the animals and let our son ride a true cowboy horse! He also showed us 2 day old puppies which sent the kids over the moon. He spent 20 minutes talking to us and was a very nice guy.

I would love to go back. We talk about this place all the time. You will not be disappointed.
