“Mom's Weekend Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

My twins and Husband surprised me with a weekend getaway to Sundance for Mothers Day. Just what I needed. :) The SPA was relaxing and peaceful. Chloe gave me one of the Best facials with massage I've ever had! And of course the Tree Room was a 10 like Always! My favorite restaurant in Summit County. If you need a getaway from your busy, cell phone, work, kid life, this is definitely The place to go. The stream going thru Sundance is my favorite sound to relax next to and read a book, take a nap. And if you want to get a hike in, definitely ride the chairlift up and hike to the waterfall!
Thank you Sundance for a memorable weekend! 10's all around!!
Tania- Very happy wife/mom :)

Tania, thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review on your recent stay at Sundance Resort. We are delighted to hear that you had a pleasant time while you were here. What a fun and thoughtful Mother’s Day gift from your family. It sounds like you were able to take advantage of many of the activities and accommodations that Sundance has to offer in the spring and summer. We are so glad that the Spa and Tree Room staff was able to help make your stay here so enjoyable. We hope that you and your family will return to Sundance Resort again soon for another stay and perhaps one of our many other outdoor recreational activities or Summer Events.

This is the second time my wife and I stayed in the cabins at Sundance, and much like the first it was everything we hoped for. The private hot tube was awesome, we were able to have some cheese and fruit as we watched the snow cover the resort all from the comfort of the hot tube. The fireplace was great along with the bed, the staff was very helpful and polite and made us feel like we were the only ones on the mountain. Can't wait to go back, if you wondering if Sundance is worth the trip, stop, and do it. Redford hit a home run with this spot.

Stayed here for two nights with a few friends during mid February. The food is great, especially the breakfast. The staff are also exceptionally good. And the rooms, you get the feeling like you are in a cabin in the woods. Real cozy and comfortable, just like the bed. I enjoyed my stay here. Only complaint was that the room service was not prompt. The view out here is also great. Even more so after we went to the bar and knocked back a few cold ones. Would recommend.

This review is for Sundance as a whole, so it includes the resort, ski hill and resto.

In a nutshell, the Sundance Resort exceeded our expectations on every account: from the reception office, to the ski instructor dude, to our suite, to the lift operator dudes, to the rental shop dudes (and dudettes) to the restaurant staff (and food), tot the maintenance staff, o the ski slope itself and the views it provided, and the resort as a whole….

Our rustic loft suite had a full, albeit small, kitchen with all the basics to prepare just about every meal during our week stay. A stop (and return trip upon seeing that we actually had a full kitchen) at Winfoods, about 20 minutes away was all we needed to stock up for the week…. Our suite had a pull-out couch/bed for our 2 young boys…. It was fine for them, but for adults, it would have made for some uncomfortable sleeping. Plus, i could see it getting a bit tight with older kids, but for a family of 4, with little kids, it's perfect..... Our unit also had a washer/dryer, which was unexpected. Glad we had it! The unit was cleaned and tidied each day. The only complaint i have is the loft, where the master bed was, got hot each night. We opened the skylight and that helped some, but not as much as you might think. Since it appears these suites don't have AC, i would imagine it would murderously hot in the summer. Also, it's worth noting, each suite is privately owned, so they're likely to be furnished differently.

The resort as a whole, including the ski hill, was low key. Mid-week, we took a break and went to Park City (our first visit) and honestly, after driving thru for a few minutes, we agreed we were glad we were staying at Sundance, and not at over-commercialized Park City….. That said, if you're looking for a ski holiday with a Disneyland-type experience with the shopping, nightlife and all the bling that goes with it, then Sundance is probably not for you. Then again, if you'd like some of that experience, but would prefer a quiet stay, Park City is only 30 minutes from Sundance…….

I'm not a downhiller, but an avid XC skier, so my mini review of the ski hill is from the perspective of a beginner….. The ski hill has about 2100 feet of vertical, which i'm guessing is on the low side for a western ski resort…. But there was plenty of green skiing for beginners like me. My boys snowboarded and found themselves on some blues after awhile. The lift attendants were on the ball and were cool about slowing the chairs for us each time we got on….. When you got to the top of the first ski lift, the views were INCREDIBLE, and i was told, the top of the back hill was even more stunning, but everything back there is blue and black, so we didn't go….. The snow was your typical spring conditions, which is fine by me---anything is better than brown ground! The crowds were next to nothing--Spring skiing ROCKS! The lower trails were groomed each night. The ski rental shop was a good experience. My wife took a snowboard lesson and she thought the instructor was great. The only disappointment was they closed the Nordic Center just before we got there, so i schlepped our XC skis out there for nothing!!

For our anniversary, we ate the Foundry Grill. Everything was fresh and delicious. My chicken pesto pizza was great, and that's coming from a pizza foodie from Chicago! The rustic atmosphere was the best. And the waiting area just outside the restaurant was a great place to take a break from skiing and to hang…. My wife got some work done there, along with a few others……

From what i can tell, the lodging costs seem to be on the higher side, the mid-range resto (Foundry Grill) was fairly reasonable, and the skiing costs (lift tix and rentals) were literally only a few bucks more per day than the local ski hills in the Midwest…. That said, overall, Sundance works out to be a bit pricey for a lengthly stay, but if you prepare most/all of your meals, and bring your own gear, you'll save a ton of $$$….

So, in conclusion, we absolutely LOVED Sundance, so much so, we extended our stay an extra night. TA will only let me give it a 5, but if i could give it a 10, i would……………

Room Tip: They're all good, even the ones without a view, like ours....

This is my absolute favorite place to stay, eat, drink and play in Utah. They have the guest service of a 5 star luxury resort with the feel of a true mountain getaway. You can see the vision of environment preservation through their hotel procedures and the products they carry. The food is fantastic and the entertainment in the Owl Bar is great on a Friday or Saturday night and they also offer plenty of family activities like movies and children's events. I would recommend this resort to anyone!

My wife and I stayed at Sundance for 4 nights to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. In short, Sundance might provide the most unique ski/winter vacation in the country. First off, the rooms are well done. We had a Mountain Suite room, and it was well decorated and very comfortable. Though much smaller than other area ski resorts, the skiing at Sundance is amazing. Great terrain, wide trails and bowls, and minimal crowds. Next up, the food at Sundance is top notch. From the breakfast to dinners at both the Foundry Grill and the Tree Room, the food was incredible. Even the small Deli within the resort produced some delicious sandwiches and soups. Next, one activity my wife loved was art classes at the Art Shack. Everyone should take advantage of this unique offering. Finally, and most importantly, the people who work and Sundance are some of the warmest people I have ever met. The staff was simply amazing. Additionally, I met some great locals while skiing who were over the top friendly and helpful.
Another aspect worth mentioning is that Sundance’s location serves as a great starting point to explore other areas. Park City is 40 minutes away, Alta/Snowbird is 60 minutes away. Plus, there are some interesting things to discover in nearby Midway and Provo.
Sundance is not for everyone. If you are looking for something more lively in terms of shopping, bars, restaurants, then Park City should be your choice. But, if you are looking for something more relaxing, more organic, and simply more authentic and real, come to Sundance. I plan on returning with my children in the near future.

We spent a few days at Sundance following some meetings there. The accommodations were very comfortable, and we enjoyed everything about our stay and the skiing. We had a Mountain Loft suite, which the resort recommended to us. We had a bit of a walk up and down the base of the mountain to get to the restaurants and base, but we liked the exercise. The room was really comfortable with a wood burning fireplace - wood and kindling provided. We ate at the Foundry a couple of nights and the food was wonderful and the staff were very attentive. They advise making reservations. We did one night and had a romantic table beside a large fireplace, the second night we were with a group of 8 and were having drinks in the Owl bar, and the staff there made arrangements for us to get a table at the Foundry within 30 minutes. The skiing was great. We rented equipment, which was high quality, and we took 2 hour lesson which turned into a private lesson for us and was just perfect to get us going on the slopes after a few years off the skis.
One thing to be aware of, it is on a mountain road, which is easy to ascend when it is not snowing. If it is snowing a 4 wheel drive vehicle or tire chains is legally required, and the staff did tell us this is enforced. It was just starting to snow when we arrived, and the little Mercedes 2 door that Hertz rented us ( a great summer car), struggled in the parking lot and there is no way I would have taken it out on the road with snow on it. We really didn't leave the resort for a few days so it was no big deal, but had we arrived a few hours later, we wouldn't have gotten to the resort. Overall , we can't wait to go back. Very relaxing and enjoyable time without all the hustle of some larger resorts.
