“Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2009

We stayed at this hotel during a ski trip to Alta. It was in a great location. Close to many shops and restaurants and only 20 minutes to Alta/Snowbird. I was pleasantly surprised at the hotel considering how reasonable the rates were. Very nicely decorated lobby and rooms. Bath and Body Works toiletries in the room. Nice pool, hot tub, and fitness room. My favorite was the free breakfast. Not your standard free continental breakfast but make your own waffles, eggs and sausage. We had zero complaints, which I admit is rare for us. We were extemely happy with our stay.

Was very satisfied with the hotel's clean rooms, superlative service, warm breakfast, free shuttle service, 24x7 coffee and hot chocolate, very usable gym and pool, and above all - very friendly and hospitable staff.

I had forgotten my laptop in the shuttle and the staff brought it back safely to the School where I had been earlier dropped. They went extra mile in extending the shuttle service beyond their closure time of 10 PM until we were done with our academic engagements at the nearby School and also on the last day - in spite of the fact that I had checked out and was no longer their guest.

And finally, at very affordable prices.

We had a group of 4 guys that went skiing for spring break 07, at Alta/Snowbird/brighton. The hotel is in relative good location to these resorts, but the construction around the hotel right now, is ridiculous. Do not drive if you are trying to get anywhere that is close to the hotel. Just walk. Trust me, just walk.

We stayed in a double queen bed room and the beds were nice. However, our air conditioner did not work. After asking the front desk to fix it, they did nothing. So after a second call, they told us that they had not changed the air conditioners over to COOL air yet, they were still on heater. The weekly temp during this week was in the mid 70's. Why would you not convert the AC to Cool? The first night we slept in 85 degree stagnant air. Since our air did not work, even after converting the unit, we changed rooms and the front desk said this room would have better ac. So after the second night, of 85 degree temps again, we complained the next morning. Maintenance came and converted our unit from Heat to Cool. Hmm, shouldn't this have been done already. 3rd night, still 75 degree temps and 3 straight nights of restless sleeping. So, now we were frustrated with the place and luckily it cooled down outside and we just kept the windows open.

Our shower head fell off one morning and the other room that our group was staying in literally, had cigarette smoke pouring into their bathroom through the exhaust vent. Even though they had a "non-smoking" room.

Juices at breakfast were not cold, although the cappucino was good. Canyon sports about 50 ft away was not helpful when renting skis and boards. If you want a very service friendly place do not go to the Canyon sports in Sandy Utah.

Not normally so pesimistic, but it is very hard to sleep at night when you are sweating. So ,either go to another hotel or don't hit the Cotton tree inn during this spring time, b/c they just can't quite decide weather to convert those AC units from Heat to Cool air.

Great location south of Salt Lake. Free shuttle bus running to the hills right outside the hotel. Very convenient to a good variety of restaurants within walking distance. The front desk sell discount ski tickets - don't get them at the hill they are much more expensive there. Good breakfast buffet included. Free hotel shuttle will take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius of the hotel. All in all a great stay.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2006

We stayed here for 1 night late April 06. The room was a nice size, very comfortable & clean with 2 queen beds.

The pool was an OK size and open 24 hours a day, woke up at 4 am and had a nice swim. Clean and good size workout room too.

Breakfast was fantastic, make your our waffles, scrambled eggs and sausage, oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit & the usual toast/muffins/danish/bagels. The guest laundry was very handy and also available 24 hours.

Very friendly staff. We mentioned that there was a tub of popcorn spilled by the back exit door and it was cleaned up right away.

We stayed here for a 4 night ski trip in Mar 06.
Our primary objective was to get something clean
& not that expensive in close proximity of the slopes.

CottonTree Sandy fits the profile. For breakfast
(included in our rate) they offered a good variety
of choices. The rooms & pool area are clean, staff
is helpful and friendly, and the neighbourhood good.
An extra level of comfort was added by the fact that
many of the guests seemed to be families with
children on a ski trip, just like us.

There are several restaurants within walking
distance from the hotel. Three of them are just
next/behind it, with others in the mall nearby
(10 minutes walk or less) .

On the minus side, it seemed a bit noisy. The faucets,
the toilet flush, the bathroom ventilator - in your
room or the neighbouring ones - you hear them all. So
if you are looking for place of total quietness,
this is not it (but you may need to pay for a 4 or
5 star).

On the plus side, a computer & printer are available
in the lobby for any guests that would like to do
some web-surfing.

We loved it overall. I rate it excellent not because
it is perfect, but because it delivers a very good
value for a 3 star hotel. We will consider it for
future trips.

Our family of 4 had two connecting rooms for 6 nights over the Christmas holidays. The rooms were narrow, and I just had the feeling the carpets and the bedspreads hadn't been cleaned in a while. This may sound petty, but the box springs are not covered with a sheet, so you just look at a naked box spring under the mattress. I think that is strange. They should invest in a dust ruffle or at the very least put a fitted sheet around it. The breakfast was terrible and they advertise from 8-10, but even as early as 9:30 they would be out of milk or bagels.

The pros are that it is very affordable, the staff is nice, and they do have a hot chocolate machine available all of the time. Also, the only restaurant within walking distance is Wendys. The mall is supposedly across the street, but really it is about 3/4 of a mile. They do have a shuttle that will take you and pick you up and it is a nice mall. Sandy is a nice base for skiing all of the resorts.
