The beautiful white LDS temple stands in stark contrast to the Red Rock surrounding it and can be seen while driving into the city. The grounds are kept immaculate and are very peaceful. One can enter the temple grounds and walk freely inside the gates around the temple without anyone from the church approaching them. There is a visitors center also on the premises. As it is a church site, while visiting the visitors center, one must expect to hear Mormon doctrine, all about the pioneer construction and about Mormon culture in general.
At Christmas time there is a nativity and beautifully recorded Christmas music being played by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. There is a peaceful rose garden with benches where one can sit and relax and ponder. There are ripe fig trees in the summer and Chestnut trees in December that they shake out and anyone can come collect the nuts.
Anyone is allowed to visit the temple grounds and the visitors center but only those members of the LDS church with temple recommends are allowed to actually enter the temple itself. Some may find this offensive, however members of the LDS faith believe that the temple is the most sacred place on earth, a place where they make sacred covenants with God.
Whenever a new LDS temple is built there is always an open house where anyone is allowed to enter into the temple and walk through all the rooms.
