“Beautiful Building with an interesting history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011

Unless you have a special recommend, you can't actually enter the temple. You are free to walk around the grounds. There is a nice visitors center at the temple, which anyone can enter. There are movies and various explanations by volunteer missionaries.

“Beautiful Place, Can't miss the White Building in the middle of Town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

Pulling into St. George Utah was truly an Oasis from a long desert drive from California. We skipped the business of Las Vegas and drove to this small clean town called St. George. Our hotel at Abby Inn was perfect and we bought tickets to Disney "the Little Mermaid" outdoor theatre at Tuacahn, just outside St. George. I thought while buying the tickets, "oh it just a Disney, probably too young for my teens." I was so wrong! This production was FABULOUS for young and old. The engineering feat working with the shows water was a MUST SEE!

Moreover, in the center of town there is a WHITE SHINING BUILDING in the middle of town. You can't miss it! It is like an Angel watching over the town. We drove right up to it. There is plenty of parking. The Building is a religious temple that has beautiful gardens surrounding it. There is a lovely air conditioned visitor center that tells you all about the building and has short 10 minute films , completely free of charge, about family subjects you would want your children or teens to think about. My two teens and I left discussing the rest of our trip about the purpose of life, our family goals. This was a great stop to do something uniquely different than most entertainment!

“Primary LDS History Site in St. George.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2011

The St. George Utah Temple is likely the premier historical destination in St. George, being the center of worship for the members of the Church of Latter-day Saints, or Mormons. This beautiful edifice stands out of the landscape like a beacon of light, its white-washed facade reflecting the desert sun and drawing the visitor to its doors.

Alas, a commoner may not enter the temple itself, due to Church policy restricting entry to members in good standing. But the Church was kind enough to build a stunning visitor center on the grounds which includes several multi-media presentations, various doctrinal materials and some history on the construction of the site. The scaled-down sculpture of Jesus Christ, Bertel Thorvaldsen's "Christus" is a peaceful and kind reminder of the Church's Christian background. Pay attention to the holes in Christ's hands in the statue.

While visiting, I was greeted by the President of the mission (the spiritual and administrative leader of the Temple grounds and staff). He and his wife were kind and welcoming, even to this seeker of history but not of faith.

Take the time to visit this site, set aside half a day or so, its really worth it.
