I had reservations (concerns not preseating lol) about going here. Word of mouth wasn't that promising, but I will try anyplace once or twice.
I wasn't too thrilled about the appearance, they really need to update outside a little, for some reason I took umbrage at the cut out tin letters of the name nailed to the wall outside and the awnings are very faded, but hey this is St. George the sun kills everything. But you can't judge a book by its cover or a food establishment from the exterior. Usually.
Inside was nice and they seem quite popular. The prices were really good especially for the amount of food you get.
When it comes to Chinese food I base my initial reaction on the egg drop soup. I LOVE soup and this was horrible. It looks like they used an inexpensive chicken noodle soup for a base and then drizzled in a tiny bit of egg. It was so bland I didn't bother eating it.
The entree was much better. I got Sweet and Sour Chicken (my favorite and de rigueur dish). I was pleasantly surprised by the portion size and I like that the chicken was cut up bite size. Some places really randomized the pieces and I dislike having to cut the, I eat with chopsticks mr! Try cutting chicken with a chopstick.
I was disheartened by the sauce. I mean big time. The pineapples were obviously from a can, a cheap- not Dole, can. The pieces were so pale they were almost white and small. The sauce was also extremely pale; the very slightest pink. The flavor wasn't too bad, but after a couple of bites I would have to describe it as a thin syrup as opposed to a sauce. It lived up to the name SWEET. I had to salt it repeatedly. I compare it to simple syrup, it was so cloying. The rice was tasty though and it didn't have the annoying bits of carrots and peas that I usually have to avoid. lol
The service was quick and the girls very nice.
Ultimately I guess I could get a good idea from the outside. Sun faded and bland. The ultimate question, would I eat there again? Yeah, but I have other places I'd much prefer to go to.
