I was amazed and impressed as I heard the story of how this building was created by people who were just getting the community of St. George established. It is a real testament to the caliber of individuals who chose to live there. There are tour guides who are happy to explain the history. Remember to ask about the spiral stairs and the balcony. Mitt Romney's ancestor was the superintendent of construction, and built the stairs. They are beautiful. When you consider what these people had to work with, this is a monument built from scratch, miraculously from materials found in the area, except the glass for the windows. That is another story you have to ask about. I left this place feeling inspired and encouraged about how much people can accomplish when they work hard, with great devotion to God and Christ. That was impressive. You just have to jump off of I-15 at either the boulevard or the bluff street exits. The tabernacle is right in the middle of the town.
