“beautiful surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2008

We were truly blown away by the beautiful surroundings while staying at the Amber Inn B&B. If you are looking to stay in the area surrounding the Zion National Park, this B&B is not very far from where the action is. We initially wanted to stay much "closer", but really everything is on one main road less than 10 minutes from the park.
The Amber Inn was nice, the owner very accomodating and the area very quiet. Our room was very large and peaceful, although the scenery will make you want to hardly be inside! Pertaining to earlier comments about the owner being a strict enforcer of water conservation, there are signs up that request you use minimal water and for good reason - they are in a desert! The breakfast was not the best quality (one day we had toaster hash browns and 1 sausage link with scrambled eggs), but i think we have been spoiled in the past. The second day our breakfast was much better, and the fresh peaches for breakfast were to die for! The only caveat i would have is that the owner very vocally expresses her religious and political likes and dislikes, and although we shared many of her beliefs, it did make us a bit uncomfortable. We would just advise her to know her audience before making negative remarks about current politics or the surrounding area's religious beliefs as it could possibly cost her overnight guests.
Notwithstanding we really enjoyed our stay there, and would recommend this B&B to anyone!

Never did get a chance to experience this property. My plans changed. Two days after making the reservation and 3 weeks before our scheduled arrival I called to cancel. They insisted on charging a $10.00 administrative fee.
I was not informed of this at the time I made the reservation but it is stated in the "fine" print on the confirmation. Unfortunately by the time you get the confirmation you are already obligated. Not a very customer friendly business.
If you are considering this property just be sure your plans won't change!

My wife and me were at Amber Inn for 4 nites in early June. First we intended only 2 nites but we prolonged because of excellent, clean and big rooms, fresh and individual breakfast and very kind owners. She gave us hints for our stay near Zion NP and we had some nice personal talks with her and some small talk with other guests. Room, bed and bath were large, comfy and clean. Amber Inn was the best accomodation during our 4 weeks trip through California, Utah and Wyoming.

Our stay here was interesting to say the least. When we got there the owner asked us if we encountered any traffic and when we said no, she asked us where all the cars were coming from then. When we were showed to our room, it was different than the one we originally booked, which was okay, but when we questioned why she immediately became defensive and said she didn't have to give us the room in the first place and if we were unhappy we could go some where else. Not a great start. She was pleasant enough until the following morning. After breakfast we went up to shower, which was very quick since we were planning to hike all day. The owner knocked on our door and began lecturing us about conservation and that we were in the shower for a half an hour -- rather than asking questions first. This was impossible since that amount of time had passed since breakfast and we were fully dressed and ready to go. Once she realized that we were not the ones in the shower, she went next door, pounded on the door and when the person didn't answer she began screaming so loudly that he had been in the shower for an hour (the time changed) that we heard everything. I admire her commitment to conservation, but this was unnecessary. Politeness is not the reason to come here. All in all, the room served its purpose and the food was decent, but I wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed at the Amber Inn while hiking in Zion. What a pleasant stay. The Ivory room has just been perfect for a romantic rest after a long day in the sun and hiking in the beautiful riverside of the Virgin River. Nida, the owner, gave us suggestions about the best spots in the Park and we loved her Lithuanian style of French Toast in the morning. Comfy bed, super clean. Hospitality excellent.
Just outside the park. Great location. Very quiet.

Amber Inn is ideally located about 10 minutes from Zion National Park. We stayed for a couple of nights at the Cherry Room.

View: There is really no view from the room. It faces into a small hill with rocks similar to the ones in Zion, right behind the parking lot.

Room: The Cherry Room was very nice with neat furnishings and a good-sized bathroom. We could have done with a full-sized mirror, a waste-paper basket, and an AC in the room though.

Service: The couple who runs the inn was not very friendly. They had very strict timings for checking in and breakfast. On the first morning, we requested breakfast at 8AM. We were almost ready to go down from our room for breakfast at 8:03AM, when the host knocked loudly at our door, and asked us how come we were not on time since we had requested for breakfast at 8AM. The next day too - the host insisted on knocking at our door at 8:30AM asking us to come down for breakfast, when we had specified that we were not in a rush and wanted to have a relaxed morning. The hosts did not wait to chat with us at any time. The hostess went off for our Yoga class the day we left and did not have time to serve us breakfast too.

They also had very strict instructions in the room (in not-so-polite language) about what could be done and what could not be done. (e.g. Men could not put their feet on the table, women could not wipe makeup with the towels, internet usage would be strictly monitored).

Charges: They charged $5 per day to use a credit card which was a bit steep. Otherwise, it was priced similar to other places in town.

Breakfast: Left a lot to be desired. It was neither lavish nor filling. The hosts never asked us if we wanted anything more; we were only to eat what was served initially. Given how friendly the hosts were, we did not feel like asking for more.

I would recommend staying at the Best Western Park Inn which had more amenities such as pool and a spa, since anyway we did not get the warm touch from a bed and breakfast place at the Amber Inn.
