“What a great place”

Great place to stay. First class all the way. Very comfy bed too. If you are a skier, the lift is very close.

This is our second time staying at this hotel and both times the experiences have been great. I am getting a little tired of reading in Trip Advisor or comments about a Motel 6 "Being the best hotel I ever stayed." (Being sarcastic of course, but you real traveliers get my drift) and therefore try and be honest. I will say that on both occasions (and hopefully for the third coming up in a couple months) we were treated perfectly by all. The dinner and the brunch were very good to eat and the service and views were wonderful. The check in and out was not unprofessional while we were there and in fact we were upgraded to a huge 4 bedroom thing (actually it was too big for the 2 of us). I asked for ice, wood, matches and lighter fuel and everything was delivered promptly and with a smile. The only thing I will say that we did not like was that this large suite lacked a charm of the smaller suites. It seemed in need of an update or something. The small one bedroom's are very intimant and "warm". The Jacuzzi on the balcony was the reason we continue to go to this location. I was able to sit in the tub with my wife and listen to college football having a cocktail!
I would say that I have not seen, nor experienced any of the negative reviews of this hotel. It remains one of our top five world wide destinations and we look forward to our return.

We loved this hotel. You could not ask for a better location and customer service. The staff was excellent and my children loved staying here. They helped boot up the kids every morning. They also gave the kids stuffed animals. One of my kids got an earache in the middle of the night and they went to a drugstore to get her medicine. Now that is service! We would definitely recommend this place to others and stay here again.

With great expectations we arrived and with great sadness we left. Every member of the staff, in every department, was both kind, helpful and extremely hospitable. The location was superb, the ski in and out situation was amazing, and to have your ski boots put on, and removed, by the most gracious ski valets, was the greatest luxury!
The whole place is extremely comfortable and completely appropriate to its environment - atop a mountain with the most wonderful views.
Beds are fabulous, the breakfast buffet very generous in size and variety, and the food delicious and the 'skiers buffet' for lunch was tremendous.
The new spa is a huge asset and much appreciated.
Congratulations to the management and to the staff on doing such a great job - you have a wonderful hotel and we very much appreciate your hospitality.

I haven't been to Stein Eriksen's in 8 years and am truly saddened to see what has happened to that once peaceful, exclusive, upscale enclave with friendly guests and incredible service. It was a gem and one of the finest ski resorts in the world.

Stein is now overdeveloped and feels like a shopping mall. We were constantly harried, hassled and herded around as if we were staying at a Marriott, but the costs say otherwise. The food is mediocre and the dinning room feels like a cafeteria.

I feel ripped-off and would never return. What a shame!

Overall, my impression was that the hotel was overpriced, especially if you looked primarily at room accomodations. The location enabling you to ski in and ski out was the best feature.
The rooms were clean but fairly average. The shower heads were awful, no water pressure and little flow. The beds were very comfortable and the views impressive. So pretty inconsistent on the quality level.
Service was very good.
Not sure how this would compare to St Regis, but of course, it is less expensive overall.
Agree the food was average for lunch, breakfast buffet included in the room price was pretty good.
Again inconsistent quality on this area.
For $400 per nite, I thought they needed to improve to achieve consistency in room and food/beverage quality.

Yes, it is expensive, but time is valuable and ski on/ski off is huge. Small things like cocoa in the ski valet room and overnight boot drying add up to the quality of the experience. About the ski valets...I was initially a little put off by having someone offer to help me put on/pull off my boots and carry my skis outside, but I relented. The ski valets are like great ski dads--patient, helpful, encouraging. When was the last time someone helped you out of your boots or carried your skis? I saw them truly help a number of relatively inexperienced skiers understand how to properly arrange their socks, tights and tighten their boots--things that can take a long time to figure out if no one tells you.

Breakfast buffet was great. Lunch buffet, great, but you need self dicipline. Dinner, a bit disappointing with a somewhat strange menu, odd portion sizes, unattractive arrangements and a sense of being stuck in some in-between world between nouveau-something and big mountain excess. What do they eat in Norwegian lodges? Upgrade it, update it. Have a theme and execute. Check out Restaurant Aquavit in New York.

The staff was great, accomodating, helpful.

The workout room, pool and spa almost empty, spotless and very well equipped--a REAL sauna.

Deer Valley is a great spot for families with varying terrain to keep everyone interested. It was more crowded and less well groomed than I expected on a busy weekend, but still a great experience.

If I am going to take trains, planes and automobiles for half a day to get to a ski resort, I want to get up in the morning, have an efficient breakfast and start skiing without dealing with a shuttle or even a long hike. I want the staff to know and love the mountain with a willingness to share some quick tips and local lore. At the end of the day I like a drink or two with old and new friends in a talkable environment, a clean, well ordered pool, spa and a hearty dinner before a very quiet night dreaming of snow. The Stein Lodge gets high marks in all those areas.
